High numbers or low numbers... what is the reality?

I see that and I'm like, damn, that's incredible... and to think I created it while watching To Love Ru.
Then I wondered: will I be able to maintain this quality?
Next thing I know, I'm asking myself if I should monetize it... but I know falling into the clutches of H leaves you with little chance of going back.

My friend then hit me with: 'Remember how people used to say that if you wanted to be successful, you should make furry art?'
I was like, 'What does that have to do with anything?'
He replied: 'Are you going for a good piece of work or are you going for the money?'

I thought about it and said, 'Well… I need to eat.' But while writing, I kept asking myself: does my character deserve that?
Eventually I got fed up, said 'fuck it', and just for fun I published it on a Japanese site.

Anyway… do you think I have good or bad numbers?

You don't need to worry about engagement. Your genres already guarantee they'll be read. :blob_melt:

if the tag is "Adult" I think readers will want/expect to watch the act? Probably?

And I'm not sure I've ever seen a story on SH where sex was implied but not shown in detail. Though personally I like to see it skipped and hinted at

Congrats on the great numbers :blob_cookie:

The "does my character deserve that" line is the real question here.

If you are asking yourself that while writing then you already know the answer. The best scenes whether they are explicit or not come from character motivation not from what the market wants.

Context always wins long term. People who show up just for the act leave after one chapter. People who show up for the characters stay for the whole story.

You can write adult content and still make it mean something. The two are not mutually exclusive. But the moment you start writing scenes just because the tag demands it and not because the story needs it thats when the quality drops and you feel it before your readers do.
Write what the story needs. If the numbers follow then great. If they dont at least you wrote something you respect.

Thank you for fulfilling the purpose of the discussion 🙏

That's certainly what I thought. I want a story worthy of my character saying in any situation, "I'm so glad I've lived!"

Things changed. Apparently, I got a visit on the Japanese site from someone who liked it and gave it the highest rating... so I'm screwed. I don't want to get banned, so I guess I'd have to hint at it or leave it out... and if I do it there, I'd have to do it here too because the Japanese are protective of their waifus and they might cancel me. 😵💫

With how the last 20 years of horrible writing has been with pointless sex scenes being added everywhere, I find that implied is the only way to go. I've gorged myself in smut and there is so many "it did the flip floppenning" or whatever new in inventive way to say dick, that is tolerated.

I myself went with a setup in a video game turned real world where the barebones relationship system still carried through. To avoid building relationships. Pure wish fulfillment. A'la Skyrim.
*Gives shop keeper something*
*Realizes what technically happened*
"Worst thing she can say is no."
Cue start of next chapter. Lying in bed with her the next morning.
"Ain't no fucking way that worked."

Indeed, context is what's important, not just showing up, doing your job, and saying goodbye. But anyway, I've already discarded that path and I think I'll go for romance novels, comedies, harems, and a bunch of other different crap, hehehe. But look on the bright side, I'm sure that when Bethesda releases The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2053, we'll be able to read about another archetype, hahaha.
