Yep. The more fans you get, the more haters you get. It happens everywhere (not only SH, not only for webnovel but also for everything)

I remember you just reached the trending spot a few days ago. Usually it takes a few days for the low rating start to appear in your place since many people binge reading a few days later and usually only occurs in novels that entered the trending spot a few times (unless your novel really upset the readers).

Low rating can also appear after you release a controversial chapter (this is a real challenge for webnovel authors because we release by chapter not a complete story).

I don't think I've released any controversial chapters yet, so that narrows it down to:

Trolls dropping 1 stars
Readers being impatient for new chapters
People actually disliking my content.

Thanks for the insight! I now have a better understanding of how these things work.

Just continue writing man. Ratings vary over time. What may be unpopular now could get popular later... (Think of the Great Gatsby for example)

Too true, too true. Mine went from 4.8 to 4.4 in the span of two days because some readers who dropped my work didn't agree with how my MC thinks (which is based on my cultural background).

And what's amusing is that, they based their rating after reaching that controversial chapter (which is about 3-4 chapters in to the story).

Well, like what you said, I prefer those who'd stay to be chill readers, not the edgy, aggro types. Helps if you were looking for a break.
Yep. In webnovel, some dude who didn't like the fact that I didn't post a chapter for a week whined in the review section and said, "No chapters are coming. I'm bored".

He deleted it eventually but I still remember that self centered comment. This is the reason why I call the Review Section as the 'Glorified Comment Section'.

Haha! This is very like my situation, minus the whiny guy. My reader numbers fluctuate whenever I release and don't release chapters. So far, it has stayed in 245+ count.

And there are nitpickers too. ?

There was one polite person who pointed out that I was using he/she said too much. When I told him that I am a new writer(which I am), he was surprised.

? I don't know why he was surprised though.

Yeah, that's right. Try doing something different for a while, like games, or watching your fave show.

Or if you can get outside, a little walk around peaceful places would be a great breather.

So, I'm currently on an indefinite hiatus at the moment, you know, just taking a breather, clearing my mind, that sort of thing. And when I came to check on my story, I found five(5) new 1star rating on it, all in the span of 2 days, no reviews no comments, just plain 1star ratings.

So I wanted to know whether Inactivity usually invite 1stars, or is my story just that bad. XD
What story?

Might be because he saw your work as something good (or a work of an experienced writer) only with the repetitive phrases. That's why he was surprised when you told him you were new.

Your story was something about aiming to be the butler of a noblewoman, right? (Correct me if I'm wrong)

If that was it, I think you could find some inspiration if you watch Hayate the Combat Butler or something?

It was a story about a teenager who was abandoned by his mother and father. He and his father looks completely alike so he was the one who had to shoulder trillions of dept that his father accumulated from gambling, among other things.

One faithful day, he met an ojou-sama.

I remember this anime. The mc is super duper unlucky to the core especially for financial ?.

Ah yeah, that'd be risky. In any case, find something different to do for a while. It would help you unwind.

If I remember correctly, I was one of the ones who left because I hated your MC and his personality, and I asked if it changed and you said no. But I just dropped the story. I didn't even leave a rating since the story itself was ok, I just had a gripe with one aspect that i couldnt reconcile enough to keep reading.

So yeah I just left. Dunno why others cant do/think the same.

Well, it's all cool with me. Not everyone would think the same, since everyone has different sets of personalities. If they like it, it's all good. If they don't, it's all okay too. Leave a comment? Sure. Pissed at the character? It's fine. Rain me with 1*? Well, I couldn't stop them.

In any case, thanks for the interest!

I've been in top 9 trending for 6 or so times .Well, I have 5 1★s out of 34 total ratings and 3 or so of them I think came from a review I have written on a certain really weird novel, same may be why you have gotten sudden 1 stars, so watch your mouth or use a different account when reviewing stuff I guess
