I had to put my dog to sleep last week, and now I'm lonely. I want to get a cat next. My parents made me promise to wait at least a month so that I won't rush into it, but I'm still making plans. I know I want a kitten, and I want it to be short haired so the shedding isn't quite as bad. Preferably a boy, but that's not a set in stone requirement. What I haven't decided yet is what to name it.

If I end up getting an orange cat, I want to name it Cheeto. Other than that, I have no idea. I saw a maine coon kitten on Craigslist and was tempted to get it just so I could name it Big Chungus.

So yeah. Give me ideas.

I’m sorry for your loss… and for a name suggestion… hmm… if it’s a black cat Eclipse or Echo-nyah.

Just name it after the breed. My uncle's family did that for dogs. Golden retriever = Goldie. Bernese Mountain Dog = Bernie. Tabby = Tabie. Siamese cat = Siamie. Cinnamon point Siamese cat = Meowth.

I am sorry for your loss. I also had a dog that recently passed named Tucksnrolls.

Here is my name suggestion. Sir (or Lady) Pawsaroundalot of house Whiskers, defender of the Purrs, slayers of the mouse, and champion of the Scratches. Or just Paws for short I dunno.

Sorry for your loss.

I am tempted for you to call an orange tabby Garfield or blue Scottish fold Doraemon.

As for the maine coon, call it lion king?

Name him Buddy, so whenever you call him you say "C'mere Buddy!"

"What's wrong, Buddy?"

"You better watch it, Buddy."

The joke is cats don't really need names; they'll never acknowledge it. *^^*
M y cats' names have revolved around literature and fate over the years.
Brutus, MaiKai (Every day in Japanese), Mystery, Greymalkin, Karma, Destiny, and Shai.(Goddess of Fate)

We lost a dog recently (and got a puppy to replace that dog's sister, who we lost a year ago, two weeks later). And have had a bunch of cats. My wife names most of them.
Our boy - at least part Maine Coon - is Ripper (well, that's the polite, SFW version of his name, at least).
We've also had Scoop (male Bengal), Cat (we tried to give him a few other names but that is the only one that stuck), Tyler (Tyler and Cat were orange and white littermates), Spud (black and white cat - and an "uncle" of Cat and Tyler), and our one all-black cat P. Perrence Porkchop or Perry (named by my wife's daughter then 'inherited' by us when she moved to a place that didn't allow pets). Before that my wife had Baby, and her daughter had Freddy who passed the week before I first came to visit.
In Chicago, I sometimes took care of a cat I thought was a stray until I learned that he technically belonged to my idiot neighbors - he was 90% black with a white paw, a white blaze on his belly and a white patch on one leg (not the one with the paw) - I met him on Halloween so called him Samhain, but they had named him Midnight, before they learned their mother was allergic to cats and kicked him out of the house (they let the other cat, DJ, that they got at the same time back in, but never let Midnight in).

Maybe they'd only let him in... at midnight. lol jk
