Help me brainstorm some stuff

South Americans of NUF help me out.
I'm trying to brainstorm some ideas for extreme weather that could affect South America due to weather patterns going berserk in a viral apocalypse scenario. now, i'm talking about major occurrences that would affect huge areas and make it harder for survivors to, well, survive. usable idea creators will be credited in the lore chapter on weather.

please also include the areas that would be affected (state/province/general region ie Northern/Eastern/Southern/Western etc) and what type of disaster it would be.

edit: thanks to beeteetee's response, i remembered that i should point out that human activity should not be the prompter for the crazy weather. so im looking, basically, for a primer on South American weather and disasters that i can then crank up to 15.

edit 2: Brazil + southern part of the continent covered. need ideas for the north and west (Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, etc).

"Ok, let's get started. The great downfall. There's many suggestions on what started it but, if you want my opinion - it was the viruses of the 21st century.

The viruses have caused several overreactions regarding the control, namely military solutions - all of which that included ample application of napalm, explosives and nuclear detonations.


With sudden fluctuations of wide area applications of extreme temperatures, It triggered catastrophes that was already on the cusp of potential to occur.

Such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and landslides due to melting glaciers and rising in sea level.

The el tigre fault massively rearranged the land and the rising waters flooded the amazons and buried off coast islands. Entire countries got buried in ash, rock or water.

It was estimated 9 billion lives on the planet dwindled to a mere billion.

Open the book to page 66, We'll focus on Brazil and how they addressed the rising waters."

How about freezing weather and snowstorms? Changes in weather destroyed warm ocean currents aroun south america and give it almost constant snowstorms comming from antarctica?

Well i can only help with brazil, so near equatorian line u can choose extreme drought with a lot of wild fire, the excess of organic mass in the air will cause black clouds and black rain. In the south of brazil u can choose betwen storm with an excess of hail wich would destroy the crops,could cause land avalanche dont know the name in english for this in northeast drought in the interior no rains for a long time and in the coast too much rain there is a chapada betwen the coast and the interior of northeast wich stop the rain from reaching caatinga. In southeast and center west in brazil rain a lot of it wich would erode the soil and cause land avalanche killing a lot of people

I'm not in south America nor is this a weather problem but consider ants, mosquitoes, and other high humidity pests.

while i was browsing Wikipedia to see if it could toss up anything interesting, i can across the 'White Earthquake' in Chile in August 95 so i'll likely do something like that for the southern parts of the continent.

I'm from Peru and the people from the coast cannot live in extreme climates as the weather there is pretty chill and there are no big changes. Like, there's no snow or it isn't that hot (I'm comparing it with Italy, where I currently live). If it's in the middle (vertical - Sierra) of Peru there would be lots of avalanches because it's mostly mountain and I remember plenty of new about them suffering from huaicos (basically a small avalanche). The jungle part of Peru (Selva), would be hit the hardest by rain.
Also there are a lot of earthquakes. Like, at least once a month. And we even have a whole month where it's happen so commonly people kind of worship a wall with Jesus on it that survived a big earthquake a while back.
(Btw, the month is October and we call the Jesus wall that survived 'Señor de los Milagros (lord of miracles)). Like, you can search 'october + Peru + Jesus' and all you will see it's the purple in Jesus on Google)
