This been a long issue with me, my grammar isnt good and I use proedit to help me with it at least to some degree. The thing is, I'm not native English speaker so I just cannot see the mistakes no matter how many times I reread the paragraph, so people say find a beta or proof but is not that easy to begin with.
Is there a way to improve in that department?Free online thing or something?
I want to improve before publishing my original story and I fear the grammar could be a turn off to many.

I am sad to say, this isn't only an issue for native speakers. This is a problem that plagues everyone who writes. You should see how some native English speakers write. So don't feel bad about that.

Ways to improve are: Get a read-aloud program/website, use Grammarly, ProWritingAid, and listen to feedback. The most important part is to understand their feedback. Getting a Beta reader can help, but it won't 100% clean up your writing.

All it takes is practice makes perfect. Or hire a professional, but that boat is far for many.

You should publish what you have and listen to what people say about it. You'd be surprised what some will read, no matter how horrid the grammar is.

Though, a read-aloud program should help you a lot.

I do hear and fix when people point out errors but that's is soooo rare, like in the years I've been writing only 4 readers ever pointed out mistakes and proposed the better alternative. Most of the time is grammar bad, grammar bad, grammar bad. It just gets frustrating.
But yeah you are right about people still sticking with the story despite some flaws

Beta readers usually come if the novel already has tons of readers. People who correct grammar are very rare here in SH. Those are many over at RoyalRoad BUT, if you're having problems with grammar, then it'll be likelier that you'll get tons of complaints instead of people helping you if you go to RR. Those grammar apps do help and probably your best bet.
