Has anyone else been over-productive?

So, I got into a groove last weekend, and wrote 2 weeks worth of uploads (probably like, 8K words over 3 days). They're all edited and scheduled for their designated upload dates.

But the issue is that i *FEEL* like i'm slacking off. I'm working on planning and writing my next story, so it's not like i actually am. But i have to keep checking to remind myself that I did actually get ahead on my primary novel.

point is, I'm not sure if i like not being down to the wire. it feels... weird. I'm used to having that deadline hanging over my head.

Anyone else get this feeling after a particularly productive day/weekend/week/whatever?

Edit: Want to clarify, I'm not trying to brag or flex or whatever. I've got no focus and no drive now.

Not with this depression of mine, no.
I've been writing on and off for 14 years (had a long break and just got back into it May of this year). My previous pen-name, I had to take whole weeks off to try and grapple with my depression. I've actually never been this far ahead. most often, I schedule less than an hour before it's due. and trust me, it kinda sucks. I can't focus on writing because i'm constantly checking to make double-triple-quaduple-etc sure that i AM in fact, not behind on uploads.

I'm surprised. From what little I've talked to you on this forum, you seem like one of the more experienced members. you've always seemed like the type to be ahead of schedule, even if just slightly.
It's really not all that fun, trust me. I haven't been able to focus since monday. ADHD sucks. no immediate deadline? no problems, no focus, and no progress. :blob_facepalm:

You got some strange problems, comrade.
It's my ADHD, i think. I always thought getting ahead would let me focus more, but if anything, not having that deadline looming has shot my drive to be productive. I can't focus worth a damn now...

If you need a deadline to focus, can you make another one for yourself? Does it work like that?

As someone who wrote 5k and more words every day for 3 years straight, I have to say something to you:
Don't do it. Don't rush to end the novels, as if you are going to trade them for cookies when you die. Take your time. Put a goal for every day. It could be 1k, 2k, or more. You will find out when you feel tired on a long day, and put that as your goal. Let your brain relax from time to time. You will get more ideas that way, and your stories will be more polished.
You won't see a lion running the whole day. No. Lions hunt in short bursts, and then they sleep. Some lions might go to sleep hungry some days, but they will catch something or die. Most of the time, they are successful.
Happy writing! :geek: :geek::geek::geek::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie::blob_cookie:??:love:

kind of. i set my own deadlines, but they're kinda set in stone now, with my readers expecting uploads at certain times. I've been trying to work on my next story, but that deadline is vague as it won't be starting until my current run is over.

that said, you did give me an idea. I might use this time to cushion my future deadlines a little. I've been meaning to stagger my releases between my sub.star and here, so this time could give me the chance to set that up.

I rarely do that. I learned not to rush when I finished my first WN on here (Lay the Dragon). most of the story isn't too terrible (even if it is a bit sporadic), but the ending is... terrible. That said, it broke the ice and taught me a valuable lesson.

And I usually trade off days. i write one day (about 1.5-2k words), then edit the next day, then write, then edit. i hit a groove since my daughter wasn't home and my wife worked, so I put a "Do not disturb" sign up, blasted some music, and hit a stride. i'd take a break when my wife got home, and started again the next day when she left. I could've done more, but I took my time and took regular breaks.

I just finished editing tomorrow's chapter, ending my 4th volume, and I am about to notify my readers that I am taking a week off from writing. :sweating_profusely: Doing it daily for the past 9 months made me feel a burnout looming above my head.

You're two weeks ahead, your brain is probably all storied out from doing more than it's used to.

It's okay, maybe even good if you chill for a li'l while?

I'd say: check in with how you feel the start of next week before you worry about it at all.

If you really don't feel like going down to the wire, set yourself a goal to get a week ahead on a secondary story, or increase the buffer you have on your primary, or something.

It's early autumn (in the northern hemisphere) and you are a mammal, so your brain is pushing you to store up resources for the winter. It might feel unsatisfied because you stored up intellectual resources instead of actual, physical food. Try grocery shopping and see if that helps.

that's the plan. I'm working on a secondary story that'll run when my current is done. it won't be published for a while yet (I can't juggle two active stories at a time), but it'll be nice to have a good buffer ready to go when I do begin posting it.

that said, I've still got ideas swirling around, and I know how to advance the story, so i wouldn't say i'm "storied out". I would've been a while ago, but the more i write, the more i want to write. But my ADHD makes it a sort of "You got time. lets wait on this and do this other, pretty and colorful thing over here!"

That's possible. I would do some grocery shopping, but I'm actually broke until next friday :blob_teary:
But I might just go do some work around the house. like i'm 'preparing the den for winter'.
