The Demon Overlord reincarnates as a human with his memories intact.
He starts training at a young age as a mortal human, and he also has to learn mana arts to become stronger, which is a new concept to him.
Although he has no idea where his enemies are and how to get back into the demon realm. The most efficient method is to become a powerful mage and get access to crucial information about the gates that lead back to the demon realm.

It's a bit slow-paced as I focused more on world-building as mc grows up.

and from the description you gave me, there was no indication of that happening.

I guess I wrote it poorly in the request.
I wasn't talking about character being average in the way they behave, it's about the scope of their worldview.
Most of the motivations of the characters written here are kind of small and uninteresting. "I want to live peacefully", "I want to be rich", "I want to save my sister/mother/wife/person of importance" or even "I'm bored" - the scope of their worldview doesn't escale beyond their most simple and basic motivations. Even if they act like manic pixie dream girls, they are still very average at heart.
I want to read about someone who'd be like "I'd sacrifice my life and fight until my very bones are broken into dust for the good of all and take it for granted" - somebody selfless maybe, but definitely larger than life. An actual hero
Well, in this request I want to read about a total average joe who gets, as @NotaNuffian put it, "sanded off"
