Reddit is not a good site. I honestly don't use it. But virtually everyone say it's a cesspool. So I don't know about making SH more like Reddit. If the author wants to lose all the credit and respect of his readers by doing it, I have no problem with him trying. As I said, Reddit has had this system for almost two decades. It works just fine, giving you an idea of how valid someone's opinion is.
Then we should get one more mod. I would rather have a partial mod than authors do it themselves. I can't trust authors as a reader, and as an author I don't want to compete with people who have even more tools to cheat. Also, it's not easy to exploit. It's fairly obvious what kind of review should be removed, and what kind should stay, even without reading a story. We have come full circle. I've already explained why we can't depend on Tony to solve all our little problems. It's called micromanagement. I doubt he has the time to read a novel for each complaint to determine whether the review is valid. That's why it's so easy to exploit if you are smart and evil enough.
Who is going to do it? You see a review, and then you see author dismantling the review. You are going to read the novel, WASTE YOUR TIME, and after that you are going to dislike the reply. Thank you, no.This is why I suggested letting everyone downvote the author's comments as well, so they can't wiggle out.
No. There are so many complaints because authors have barely any skin at all, and because they are two-faced. They are okay with unfair 5-stars, but not okay with 1-star ratings. It's that simple. The amount of complaints about real trolls against those who have thin skin is one in a ten.that's why there are so many complaints about 1-star ratings.
And pretty much every other site still have the same ratio, or just a tad bit higher. People selfplug on YT all the time, yet the amount of viewers that gives likes is around 10% all the time. And all you have to do is click one button. I struggle to comprehend how UI is going to change anything. Unless you do a popup or something, which will make readers irritated rather than compelled to rate.No one is forcing anyone, only improving UI for everyone's good. When I ask for a review or rating at the end of a chapter, is that considered forcing? No, of course not. It's simply a call to action that does bring positive results. Why a website can't do it automatically is beyond my understanding.
I'm asking for a simple "Did you enjoy this novel? Consider leaving a rating: ☆☆☆☆☆". Pretty much every iOS and Android application does it because no one wants to waste their time opening the app store to do it manually.
Yeah, and that's why we should not change anything. Case closed.Partaking in any kind of entertainment is inevitably a gamble. No matter how many ratings you slap on something and how detailed they are, there's no 100% guarantee that someone is going to enjoy it. So their precious time will always be in danger.
That's not even taking into account that if someone reads 20 chapters and they stop enjoying it at 21, then it's still 20 chapters of entertainment they got. Again, for free.
People go to bookstores and buy physical books, based on nothing but a cover and synopsis on the back and you don't see them malding because they spend 1 day reading a book they didn't like. Even though they had even more valid reason for it--paying their hard earned money for it.
All that it takes is a couple of glances at tags and skimming through a chapter or two to know if you're going to enjoy the story or not. And if you can't do that, then all I can say is: skill issue and git gud.
It's getting spicy now.
