Simply put, I want to read a novel that's like a korean romance drama, BUT! the story doesn't focus on this, there could be magic and demon king as the main driving plot with good amount of romance drama on the side.
And no HAREMS! Yeah I know, with this requirement, that'll write most novels off. But I don't care.
It could be a school setting but it's okay if it's not.
Im just really curious how it's like, I've watched kdrama series with my friends but I'd never read one in novel format?
Again better if the romance drama part is just a like, only half the driving force of the story, and isn't the center point, but still crucial.
I just find stories like, romance in the middle of like say, a zombie apocalypse much more appealing than a story just focusing on romance.
Anyways, not hoping for much cause again, taking out harems crosses out most stories and I know how much authors and most readers love harems. But still, got any good recommendations??
Edit: To give some sort of reference to what I'm talking about, I think The Novels Extra fills my requirements, a good romance drama as a side plot but preferably the romance part is a little more emphasized.

Most of mine try to do this. I haven't posted my attempt at a romance novel anywhere yet but
Strange Awakening, Between Worlds and Digital Cowboy all have some romance elements (Digital Cowboy is pretty slow burn on it as that is the one thing Dane likes to take his time with), but they are B and C tier plots. There is a kind of half-hearted romance in the Jack Diamond stories but that is almost a side effect of the genre.
Have been dancing around romance in True Blue and may not really get back to it for a while but it's also there, in the background.

Digital Cowboy is interesting, or maybe it's because I just watched Django and Magnificent Seven yesterday? Haha.
Too bad there's only so few chapters. Will check it out again after some time.

There are ... 43 chapters up at PocketFM as Digital Cowboy Dane. Just haven't had the time and energy to port them all here yet.

All of my stories have some kind of romantic subplot in them. The two with the most are Page by Page and Mad World.

Page by Page is about a mangaka named Shizuka Hiratai and her journey as an artist and storyteller as her manga, a shojo series named Break The Ice, gets more and more popular. It also features her getting into two relationships throughout the story with plenty of drama to go around.

Mad World is a dark magical girl action/urban fantasy/horror series about a girl named Ruka Kishio who is recruited to join a small band of magical huntresses (and one magical huntsman) called the Fox Knights, led by the charismatic Hana Miyashita and her second-in-command and only boy in the group Yoshiro Arikawa. Over time, several more people join, including newer magical huntress Sayaka Miyamura and an old elementary school friend of Ruka's named Kumiko Murata. The story as of now features one lesbian relationship as well as ongoing drama related to unrequited feelings within the group, with two more relationships planned.

Be warned that Page by Page is rated mature for its more adult content (no full-blown sex but lots of talk about it and build-up to it). Mad World is rated mature for its violence and is not for the faint of heart.

Aren't they taking away all the copyrights?
They haven't yet. Haven't been offered a contract (but over 100 listeners so might happen; guess telling my mom about it helped since I had a whopping SEVEN before I told her!).... since the title was forced to be different, I might have some wiggle room (same with Between Worlds/Between Earth and Pyrroth - heck even the first chapter and chapter numbering are different there...)

Its audiobook version? Not familiar with pocketfm unfortunately, but eh, I'll just wait till you have the time to upload it here, not impatient. I prefer reading most of the time, and I only go to audiobook versions only when I'm doing menial stuff.

Have you finished it? Can you provide a slightly spoiler review of it?

Okay, I think my story might fit what your looking for.

My MC will be in a poly relationship with 2 people, but that's not until later. And I did look up harem and it means 3 or more. But I'll let you decide...thank you.

I could recommend mine, but it's a little slow because I take the time to build up a totally unexpected romance and I don't think I'll be disappointed.

Harem dramas are something. Closest I've seen are like maid to empress as she evades MIL empress dowager, or concubine outsmarting the prime queen candidate. Never really seen an author try to explore the drama of multiple wives and one husband.

.....

I've thought about doing that in one of my stories some day but I don't like planning and getting all the little details in isn't something I look forward to so the idea is in the backburner.

Good luck with your search!

I saw your post and totally get where you're coming from. It's so rare to find a story with meaningful romance drama that isn’t buried in a harem setup or made the sole focus. Im actually writing a story that might be close to what you’re looking for!

It’s called Cursed Destiny! it leans more into the fantasy/drama side with magic, and curses, but there’s definitely an emotional slow-burn romance between the two main leads (no harem at all, I promise!) The dynamic between the characters is a big part of what shapes the plot.

Right now, I’ve only published the prologue and chapter 1, so it’s still early. but Im planning on releasing 10 - 12 chapters every monday. I’d be super honored if you wanted to check it out and see if it’s your vibe. ?
