So I'm looking for a bunch of class skills for a thief orientated class in something like a LITRPG, this won't be the class of the MC but likely a side character.

I'm just curious what everyone's idea's are? I'm not looking for super OP things like magically stealing a equipped weapon.

I was thinking about things like [silent steps] that make the sound of footsteps dissapear at the cost of draining mana.

Perhaps a disguise skill, forgery skill, maybe something that allows lockpicking or sabotaging.

A dagger usage skill, things like that. Maybe trap detection and setting skills, or would that be more for a rogue?

Please share you're ideas ❤️

[Sleight of Hand] (passive/active)
Your hand movements are less noticeable.

[Trick of the Light] (active)
Observes lose track of you.
* Works once, does nothing to prevent them from noticing you again but can provide a brief window of opportunity; also, effectiveness depends on what they see - the skill will do nothing if you're standing in front of them in plain sight.

[Glimmer] (active)
A minor enhancement that makes people more likely to see what they wish to see in an object.
* Intended to be used in forgery.

[Sneak attack]
You deal more damage when people are unaware of you.

That sounds more like a barbarian to me. Thief is all about the sneaky stabby, not the flailing wildly.
Was thinking of Bandit in Maplestory.

Iirc the class had Savage Blow, which is basically Power Strike ie one powerful hit on one target.

As to why it became flurry? I was thinking about Oreo McFlurry.

Ps.

[Silent Step]
Think Caveira from R6.

[Lock Picking]
With dexterious fingertips that can pleasure anyone to pleasure the locks until climax- I mean unlock.

Everything related to detecting valuables (detection, apparaisal, observation, etc...)
Evrything related to being unseen (discretion, camouflage, invisibility, etc...)
Everything related to movement (quick steps, fast hands, etc...)
Everything related to infiltration (crocheting locks, traps setting up and removal, appraising a building to know all the paths, etc...)

[Presence Concealment]

Hides one's presence. Suitable for spying. It is possible to disappear and become extremely difficult to be detected. The rank of Presence Concealment drops considerably when preparing to attack.

(Inspirated from assasin skill in FGO.)

I just wanna share this. When I was playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced, my favorite class was Thief and my next favorite strategy during endgame was spamming Steal, using it to strip the enemies basically of their armor and damage. Yah, only works on humanoids, but it sure was fun to play.

I was reminded of Aphorism and Reincarnation of Kaben where the former has an antag with steal that allows him to rip organs out of people from a distance and latter with MC stealing blood from others by touch.

If you want to move to more generic terms:

Mechanics (The art of manipulating locks and mechanical traps)

Manipulation (two flavors - Manual Manipulation to cover sleight of hand and pick pockets - nothing that Pick Pockets can also be used to plant stuff on people; Mental Manipulation is the skill of the Con Artist - covering both the "fast talk" scams and the "long con" art of persuasion).

Evaluation (can be used on goods to estimate their worth - and on people to estimate whether they can be trusted or bribed and, and how expensive the latter might be).

Because of my preferences I edged into supernatural here, but hopefully stayed in the spirit of thief.

Stow- Become drastically better at hiding items on your person. Obviously works better with lots of baggy clothing, but even at base you can tell at a glance if there is anywhere on (or in) your body you could hide that thing you are looking at, then get it there in one fluid motion.

Quick draw- kinda the opposite of Stow, allowing you to quickly and efficiently grab any item you have on your person without making mistakes. It is so easy to fumble or grab the wrong thing in a high stress situation; do not underestimate this one.

Disarm- not quite as good as magically calling something to your hand, but you become much better at knocking an unsecured weapon out of the enemy’s hand, learning multiple martial arts techniques with that in mind.

What’s This?- Gain a baseline understanding of how to use any item you have in your hands. At base level of the skill it is only a short verbal explanation like “put into the correct lock to open a door” or “pull trigger when pointed at the enemy to cause harm” or “do not break this bottle or you die” or “no intrinsic use, but valuable to the right merchant” but can get better with time. Real life saver for people raiding tombs or magical laboratories.

You didn’t see anything: People unaffected by your actions are more likely to ignore or forget you. Unlikely to get a guard to let you pass, but taking note of strange men isn’t the maid’s job, and she’d really rather pretend you weren’t there even without magic getting involved

Parkour- for the getaway. Gotta stay, one jump ahead of the lawman.

Roguish Charm- Boost to charisma and interpersonal skills, much better if someone sees common ground with you. For example, fellow thieves or people who get your obscure references to literature and philosophy

Disguise Mastery- A kind of psychometry. Allows the thief to emulate the mannerisms, vocabulary, and even some surface level knowledge of the last person to wear a set of clothes.

Minor Magic- Whatever the weakest tier of Magic is, a thief can access it, but limited to things like snuffing out candles from a short distance away, extremely basic illusions, or mentally befuddling people that are already tired and bored (like night time guards). Most thieves don’t take the skill because it’s an expensive dead end, unless they are planning on transitioning to a more magical class.

It's a thief, so stealing things, of course:

Steal heart: charm people

Steal skill/magic: take someone else's spell or skill

Steal enchanrs: take someone buff(s)

Steal pain: take damage from allies unto yourself

Steal aggro: redirect enemies to you

Steal courage: cause enemies to flee.

Steal equipment: take someone's weapon or gear.

Steal money: obvious

Steal experience/level: lovely way to flip the tables on someone

Steal circumstances: swap position, condition with someone else

Steal health or mana: why not at this point

Steal attributes: hey, lowering someone's strength and getting a boost to your own can equalize many things.

Steal loyalty/honor/contract: turn someone against their owner/employer

Steal will: mind control

Steal fate: cause the person to fail spectacularly at whatever next important task they were meant to do

Basically: STEAL whatever!

It's a thief class, not a rogue or assassin!

Telekinetic grab: grab things that are, at most, 4 meters away from you. You cannot use telekenesis to grab anything that you can't grab with your regular strength.

Distract: Make your opponent or opponents hear a sound that'll take their attention away from you. At higher levels, you have a larger variety of sounds.

Muffle: You or your selected target make lass noise.

Mimic: Learn to imitate the mannerisms, basic knowledge, and even speech patterns of a selected person.

Shadow camouflage: When in a dark area, you can stand still to remain unseen. Light can break this skill. (A much less OP version of invisibility, gotta have some drawbacks.)

Nerves of steel: (Passive) You can keep calm in even the worst situations so that you make fewer mistakes.

Silver tongue: (passive) You have a slight bonus that helps you convince and dissuade people. The bonus becomes stronger the higher your level. (add a cap to this one, like every ten levels they are 5% better but It caps at 20% or 25%.)

Everyone is saying how a thief steals stuff or breaks into places but what's the point if you don't make it out alive? Sooo....

Smokescreen: Simple ability that deals no damage and blinds everyone in a large area except the thief. Higher levels = more smoke. Could possibly have upgrade trees for flashbang, sleep gas, poison, et al.

Rabbit Hole: By placing a "rabbit hole" in a safe zone, the thief can teleport to it instantly if they aren't in combat and within reasonable range. Only one "rabbit hole" can exist at a time.

Play Possum: NOT a "resurrection"-type skill. The thief status and appearance change to make them appear dead, but they are biologically alive. Very useful against less perceptive enemies.

Smooth Criminal: Allows the thief to find the fastest and closest escape route. However, this skill will ONLY locate the fastest route. The highest tiers could add hazard detection, plotting alternate routes, or even a temporary ghost form to shave off some meters.

Cowardice (passive): The more enemies are targeting the thief, the faster and more agile they become. However, their durability and attack power decrease as well.

Roguish Charm- Boost to charisma and interpersonal skills, much better if someone sees common ground with you. For example, fellow thieves or people who get your obscure references to literature and philosophy
Why invest skill points into something I already have~?
