Well, we do and don't have legacy. For one thing, there's no true picture of the average American. If you want to say "original 13 colonies", I'd point to the Indians, or Native Americans, and ask "they were here long before them." Ever since its founding, America has had a sort of melting pot identity, which in turn became its legacy. Our legacy is that we host so many other legacies that it all blends into one.
