Scribble Hub Generic Isekai Collaboration Project

Are you writing a generic isekai story? Come collaborate on our shared generic universe called "Gaia"!

This is our worldbuilding document (please request access to edit).

+ + +

Setting Features:
  • Enormous world (almost endless in size)
  • Medieval fantasy ambience
  • Stereotypical JRPG monsters (i.e. slimes, goblins)
  • Stereotypical fantasy races (i.e. elves, dwarves, orcs)
  • Multiple systems of magic co-exist
  • Multiple gods, goddesses, and blessings co-exist
  • Isekai summoning rituals and Otherworlders
^ If any of these features sound like they are compatible with your story, you may be a good fit for this collaborative project!

+ + +

Author Participation Rules:

Rule One: Keep things open-ended

All additions you make to the shared world should be open-ended. Give other future authors the chance to expand, alter, or elaborate on something that you write about. Avoid superlatives or restrictive content that prevent other authors from adding more material. When something conflicts, try your best to think of a way that both things can exist.
  • Good: Fruys is one of the Great Dragons who breathes fire.
  • Bad: There are exactly three Great Dragons in the entire universe and Fruys is the only one who breaths fire.

Rule Two: Accept that you don't "own" things that you add to the universe

As authors, it's natural to feel possessive about our stories. However, in a collaborative world-building project, it's important to accept that we give up ownership when we contribute something to the shared universe.
By adding a city to the universe, you have to to accept that someone else might come along and set it on fire.
If you're unable to accept other people modifying, contributing, or even destroying your setting, this collaborative project may not be good for you.

Rule Three: Reserve as little as possible when writing your story

We allow authors to reserve a location and a time period when writing a story.
We allow reservations because we understand that it takes a long time to write a story, and we may not want other authors to change a particular setting when we're in the process of a story. However, it's best for the community (and also more fun) if you reserve as little as possible and let things develop organically when multiple authors cross paths and intersect with their stories.
Reserving an entire continent for 100 years is dull... because other authors won't want to use your setting if you're too controlling about it.
Reserving something small (like a city or a palace inside the capital) for ~10 years is recommended.

Rule Four: Keep the shared documents concise and generic

To encourage new authors to join, keep the shared worldbuilding document as concise as possible.
Try to limit glossary entries to sentences not paragraphs. You can link your story if it addresses a particular topic in detail.
Remember that making things too complex chases away other authors from wanting to participate, so simple is better!
Only add things to the glossary if you've written it in your story. Don't add things that you haven't yet written...

Reservations

If you would like to reserve a location/time, use this form:

Code:
[U][B]RESERVATION[/B][/U]
[B]Location/Topic[/B]:
[B]Duration/Time[/B]:
[B]Story Link[/B]:

A reservation means that you are the primary author on a particular subject for a particular time period. Other authors will need to contact you before making major changes to the setting you reserved.

The current year in Gaia is "GY 1000".

You can only reserve a location/place/topic for the duration of your story.

For example, you can reserve "Midas Village from GY1000-1005" if that is the primary setting for your story.

If you've been inactive for six months or more, you will lose your reservation(s).

Example:

I'd like to write a story about a girl who spends all her time with wolves inside a forest...

It's a pretty generic story, so I think it might fit well into this universe!

(- Request access to edit Google Doc -)

The Google Doc looks pretty empty... so I'll just fill in some generic stuff so I can get to my setting.

* Created Ochre Continent
* Created the Shrouded Forest
* Created the Wolf Caverns

I think my story will take place in the Shrouded Forest.

I don't really want anyone messing too much with the Wolf Caverns (since that's sort of like my character's home), so I'll place a reservation:

RESERVATION
Location/Topic: Wolf Caverns (Ochre / Shrouded Forest)
Duration/Time: GY1000 - GY1005
Story Link: -TBD-

I decided to reserve this for 5 years because I think that will be the length of my story.

After 5 years (in the world) elapses, anyone can do whatever they want with this setting.

And that's all!

Once I get a story link, I'll share it here too.

Kinda interesting. But I was already planning to set all of my stories in my own Multiverse. But, a multiverse is a VERY big place. And some of my characters will have the ability to travel between universes within the Multiverse. So if on my end I presume that Gaia exists somewhere within or adjacent to the multiverse I'm building, some of my characters could have a few adventures there. If that's alright with you? I could at least use those adventures to seed some of my Races into Gaia if other people wanna use my style of Automatons or some such. Or I could use it as the setting for some stories I have in mind that don't involve characters that can travel like that on their own, and I don't yet have too much of the world fleshed out for.

Totally!

Excellent. I was hoping to eventually open my multiverse up to other people, but wasn't sure how that'd even work. This platform seems a solid way to see where we can take it. Might even have to move up the pace on giving some characters the ability to travel between universes. Or I could write a story or two involving characters I've thought up that already can. My Divine Parasite or World Artist perhaps. Mhmm~

This is the story I'm writing with my reservation: I Am the Mother of Wolves

Synopsis:
Sasha woke up one day surrounded by six wolf cubs that think she's their mother.

Somehow, she ended up in another universe... in a pack of wolves... as a beastgirl with a tail?

While I understand "Give other future authors the chance to expand, alter, or elaborate on something that you write about." I think its a really bad idea to say they can just go ahead and set it on fire. Like its cool if you build a city and another author writes about their characters visiting and exploring that city. Its not cool if you spent dozens of hours building the lore and world of that city and another author comes by and destroys it with a dragon attack. Not cool, at all. And that's literally what you said they can do, burn your city, destroy your setting. No one wants all their hard work destroyed like that. All your doing is inviting trouble between authors for the future. Put limits on what can be done in terms of interaction. Simply saying "well this may not be good for you" is not enough.

Interesting project. Personally I don't plan on joining, but I do hope you find others who do.
