So... I've been pondering whether to upload this because, regardless of how I wrote it, it sounds like I'm whining. Still, I'm curious and I will be direct. However it might sound, I don't care anymore.

My new novel, [Ascension of the Sylvan Cosmos], has an average of 2.3K daily views, more than ten comments per chapter on average, and a few reviews, and I am uploading it daily.

Why hasn't it appeared on the front page once? I mean, I would love to say. "I'm not complaining, but...". Still, that's not the truth because I am complaining, hahaha. I think that the algorithm rewards large shifts in readers, so novels like mine and those that are better than mine fail to clear the algorithm because they are daily uploads and grow steadily.

Do you have any idea if I am right, or am I just being impatient? Should I believe that it will start appearing soon?

Some of you might ask, "Why are you complaining if it is doing so well?" Well, I am uploading two novels daily and working quite hard for that, so I want it to reach a wider audience by at least appearing once or twice on the front page, as I think I deserve it precisely because it is doing so well.

Also, it's not like I can't understand your sentiments. Even I have been trying my best to write proper stories since I began taking up serious writing in 2017, but reception for my work is so-so.

However, it's either 'not your time yet' or 'not for you'. Any case, just give it more time. Or look for other sites to upload your work for more exposure. ?

I think it is nicer than royal road's algorithm. Can't you only get trending once? And a pre-req is to have 10+ reviews or something like that.

(I'm assuming you want to be in top 10 for trending)

Because uploading a chapter posts on the main page too for latest releases.

Yeah I have a similar problem as well. I would say it has to do with new readers. We got loyal readerbase but we dont get enough new readers to get in the front page. Thats why its usually new novels or fanfics

To be honest, this could probably be it. It would make sense why, with similar trends, my second novel has yet to appear on the front page.

I don't know about the trending page or its algorithm, but I remember seeing your story once in the latest updates section.
All the best for your new story! :blob_cookie: :meowsip:

With your numbers, I think it should start trending sooner or later. Once you have achieved that, it will appear there repeatedly once in a while as long as you still upload. Then, after the novel hits 2k readers, it will be ditched forever(from experience).

Also, there is a theory of mine that if a story does too well, it will be ineligible for trending. My first novel consistently pulled off 3~5k views per day a while back, and it has never been on the front page...

Either way, good luck with your writing.

I think it has something to do with view per day, I am addicted to studying algorithms, mine got on Trending a few times and all of those times it got over 500 views per day consecutively. It could be that you have to get higher then your previous usual amount for a few calculation rounds (when the view updates).

1. Don't update daily. Every 2-3 day have bigger chance to front page.
2. Upload chapter in one hour before trending updating. A chance to trending tomorrow.
3. Ask your reader to favorite (♥) and comments.
That was my theory and observation.

It is strange how the current algorithm rewards authors for going on hiatus because it's the only thing that can reset your metrics and allow you to appear in trending. :blob_unsure:

It was way back, but it didn't help me. If this particular criteria of SH algorithm was the same back then, it is more than simply getting spikes in metrics.

Well, I am uploading two novels daily and working quite hard for that, so I want it to reach a wider audience by at least appearing once or twice on the front page, as I think I deserve it precisely because it is doing so well.
Web novels and sites that host web novels tend to reward stories with larger amounts of chapters. More chapters = more times your novel appears on the Latest Updates section on the front page of the site.

The more it appears on the Latest Updates, the more of a chance for new readers to be caught into your metaphorical reading net.

You’ve got 250 chapters? That’s a guaranteed 250 times a large chunk of the site’s readerbase has seen your novel when they logged on.

I think there are diminishing returns for it. Not sure how it exactly works.

I don’t know the exact things the algorithm looks for but it definitely seems growth based rather than purely audience size. If your amount of readers is staying steady at a high amount or growing slowly you won’t end up on trending.
