In response to @SailusGebel grievance with the Indie game industry's lack of innovation and general homogenization of games due to popular trends.

Can you recommend some games that are kind of not like the others?

A bit mould-breaking.

Let this be a timeless thread whenever you encounter something fresh add it here.

I brought
WORLD OF HORROR a while ago.

It looked pretty fresh
(I haven't even installed it nor played it yet, Teehee :blob_happy::blob_sweat:)

1. Chrono Ark

2. Death End ReQuest

3. Death End ReQuest 2
—> Know for PC, there is a slight bug that was never fixed. The mouse cursor will be stuck to the middle of the screen. Download AutoHideMouseCursor, and it will hide it automatically. That’s the only issue, so download the thing and everything will be fine from there.

4. Eternal Senia/Hydeangea

5. Faraway Qualia

6. Tower Hunter Erza

7. Frontier Hunter Erza

8. Helen’s Mysterious Castle

9. Lunar Lux

10. Marchen Forest

11. Mega Dimension VII/R

12. Momodora series.

13. Minoria

14. Monster Hunter Stories

Well yes, but they are good. ?

Though, a lot does do things you wouldn’t normally expect as well.

On another note Chrono Ark is a Korean game. A party based deck builder.

It can be hard starting off, but they have a pace for everyone. You have to manage a mana system, with the type of cards each character can use.

Learning chains is very important, but also paying attention to each boss. There is a certain way to approach each boss, otherwise you can risk wiping out your team.

There is a wide range of combinations, and many community supported mods. One of which allows the main character to be a part of the team normally, and that character is the most powerful, since they can initiate an infinite chain.

Boss battles gives the main character exclusive skills, these has to be used carefully, and woven into your strategy to win.

Sometimes as well, there are penalties. One of which is a witch boss, you have to choose which character to curse, or all of them gets cursed. That curse is like a timer, the longer you take the worse it gets.

On top of this, there is a time limit until a fog blows in completely. If you don’t act fast enough, this fog dramatically boosts the enemies stats.

Despite all of this, it is pretty fast paced with killer music.

Pretty good art style as well.

Also, apparently the character killed a hedgehog’s father who comes back to try and kill them as a bonus boss. ?

Bonus bosses are hard as hell. :blob_blank:

To explain more on exclusive commands. And there are many of them based on the boss battles.

Certain battles can only be won when conditions are met, so the main character gets an exclusive command to do so.

The second to last battle really brings this to the max.

You have only around 5 uses of a command to clear out the boss’ support, so timing is key. This boss has three phases.

On top of this, when they reach 1 HP. The main character gets an exclusive skill to advance to the next stage.

The second stage, you also have to survive a turn while getting bombarded. The third stage, you have to bring down both their main support at the same time, which opens the boss up for the final exclusive skill.

The clashes in that battle was amazing. Each phase, they animate the clash between the two characters.

This is the only time you will ever see the main character’s abilities animated, and they did all of them, except for one which is shown in the True End.

Anyway, point is. The exclusive commands have to be woven into your strategies in order to win.

Core Keeper is like Terraria and Stardew Valley got married and had a baby that's not quite as good as either of its parents but is still really fun in its own right.

Balatro will suck out your soul and replace it with the unquenchable need to play more Balatro.

Crypt of the Necrodancer is good if you've ever played A Link to the Past and wished it was a DDR game (and who hasn't?)

Spiritfarer is sidescrolling Stardew Valley on a boat where I swear somebody keeps leaving bowls of onions laying around because I am not crying, you're crying!

Super Hot is what happens when an indie game developer watches The slowmo scenes in The Matrix and says "That! I want that, but as a first person puzzle game!"

The Witness might be a good match if you're the most boring person alive.

Darkest Dungeon is a good choice if you've done something horrible and subconsciously want to be punished for it, and there are no scary geometry monsters readily available.

Age of Wonders 4 is like Civilization if Civilization was Warcraft and Warcraft was Xcom.

Age of Wonders: Planetfall is like Civilization if Civilization was Mass Effect and Mass Effect was Xcom.

Humankind is like if Civilization was Civilization and Civilization was Civilization.

Wargroove is for people who wish their Fire Emblem could be a little more like Fire Emblem.

The Mega Man: Battle Network Collection is great for people who want to play a game made by somebody who thinks they might have played an RPG once when they were a kid and tried to develop their own from memory.

I bought that last year. It might be the most meh game I've ever played, and I'm saying that as a fan of HP Lovecraft and Junji Ito. And unless your worst fear is slide shows, it won't scare you much.
