I’m a seasoned book editor looking to connect with the Scribble Hub community. I know how hard it is to tell if your "hook" is actually working, so I’m offering free developmental feedback on Chapter 1 of your manuscript.

Sorry, we do have an experienced editor here, she is @LeilaniOtter

But maybe you are half right, only a few editors are willing to volunteer their services... and she is the exception among exceptions, at least as far as I know.

Editor, former literary agent, and book publisher. *^^* We stopped publishing books after COVID however, as we were afraid of having manuscripts delivered to us. But, sure, please get in touch when you need me. I can't necessarily volunteer something too extensive however, I think @Eldoria may be referring to when I was helping other authors with first chapters. But I'll do what I can to help others.

The real tell is that they say they're a professional editor, and are from the UK. Clear shenanigans. No way they'd let any editor or publishing affiliated individual visit any site as free expression tolerant as Scribble Hub without being tracked, monitored, and detained for thuggery.

For a case of (original green) Monster, and a carton of Marlboro Light (king size),
I will beta read your book. That cost is "per" 100k words.
i can't do pages-cost because of font I switch to when working.

look at it this way. at least you won't be getting "AI advice".
and I didn't get my "credentials" of beta-reader out of a cereal box.
I read a lot of paperbacks growing up. I mean a *lot*.
the idea of the text though, has to "zen" with what I might enjoy/tolerate reading, or there's no point.

I question the effectiveness of traditional publishing editors and applying the experience to web-novels.
LeilaniOtter, at least is a well-known fixture and seems to have webnovels of her own going.
I can't say I get the same "vibe" off of many of the others.
For one thing, there's a certain "smug" that comes across.
Again LeilaniOtter doesn't have this snark-smug coming across. The "vibe" seems legit.

Then you have to question the whole trad-pub industry, top to bottom.
I grew up with a father and a grandfather that both had bookshelves and boxes of paperbacks in their basements.
So I've read a shit-ton of paperbacks from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s.
and when I look at paperbacks today... hoo boy, more than one thing has definitely changed.

one argument, is that "trad pub" became more and more irrelevant about overnight.
they tried to hold onto the idea that "print" was "real" publishing.
sales are sales though. E-publishing has some legit success stories.

another argument? maybe, just maybe, "whatever" changed in the trad pub industry...
the e-pub industry was developed in *opposition* to those forces.
how about we let the readers decide what's good and what's not.
not some industry with perhaps some agenda.

trad pub is constantly looking to make inroads into e-publishing.
whole companies that want to design covers.
editing services.
beta readers.
the whole industry *desperately* wants "in" to e-pubbing.

and as someone that can compare zillions of vintage paperbacks in the bag I read,
against the new ultra modern thing?
the trad-pub industry is pissing off a huge percentage of old-time readers that just want to read what they used to read.

webnovels and paperbacks are two different animals, that's one lesson that's becoming crystal clear to me.
and I'm not sure a magazine editor, a trad-pub editor... will know what will work and what won't.

You can think of me as someone sort of Isekai'd out of 1985 and plopped into 2025...
and you won't go far wrong because of my unique experience reading growing up. That being all vintage.

and you gotta ask yourself a question.
do you want the people that (arguably) collectively ruined the trad-pub industry...
coming in and making any big in-roads to web-novelists.
