On a scale1-10 how much would you care if an author used AI to create a book cover or for images throughout the book? Would you rather them save up and pay an artist or would it be ok if they deiced to save some money and used AI?

I personally didn't want to use an AI cover, but I don't think it's bad if you do. As long as you make sure it's a good image, and not one with twenty-seven fingers or something.

Anyone crying about an AI cover isn't someone worth paying attention to.I never take rabid anti-AI twats seriously. I treat them the same way I treat annoying moralizing vegans. I buy the juiciest burger nearby and eat it in front of them. Have done this numerous times. The rage they express is hilarious It's the same with anti-AI types. The more annoyed they are by me, the better I sleep at night.

I don’t know if it’s me but the type of genre you right determines if you use an ai cover and your readers will respond positively or negatively. For example i write in a boys love type of genre, and tbh most of the books I see with high views use ai covers, i mean not saying that if you don’t use ai cover you wouldn’t get views but it’s by studying scribble hub. For example you wouldn’t use an ai cover in like Wattpad for example, cause it’ll throw people off immediately. It honestly just depends on the writer if they use ai it’s their choice, or if they prefer like to pay an artist it’s their choice as well, im am artist myself and im nit really offended by it. It’s only when they claim that oh the art’s there that it’s kinda annoying. Omg I wrote too much sorry ????

You're onto something here :blob_gift: I notice that Fantasy & Adventure stories with AI covers are kind of doing badly. And after reading your post, it seems it isn't as much as a problem with other genres. Slice of Life, Drama, BL, Smut, etc are doing just fine.

As a reader I don't touch anything with AI art. Even if the synopsis sounds very promising. AI art is just not pleasing to the eye to me. A selfmade cover with flaws will be remembered longer than some AI slop, at least for me.

I'm behind on originals. Most BL authors I know don't use AI art. I just don't see the use of the environment pollution so that there is a cover that looks like 50 other books. There are many alternatives to using AI.

Most AI covers are just pictures of a dude with a vaguely childish feature who's looking straight at you lol

I think BL here is one of the genres that mostly use original arts as covers, if the authors aren't the artist themselves.

That's just a turn-off. Also very cringe if you join it with romance. Like ewww, why would give me the image of a teenager when you have smut in there.

There is so much fun in there making your own covers, even if it's fugly, you will hold it dear just like your first book with weird prose and quadrillions of spelling mistakes.

Exactly cause my book is a boys love ( obviously) and when I first started I didn’t use an ai cover, I got an image off Pinterest i edited it using canvas and made it look cool and like any normal book cover, i published my book, and I was doing well like three reads per chapter however, i decided to study the scribble hub algorithm and I noticed a book that was published the same time as mine had more views ( not saying my writing is as good as theirs, and im not comparing ) but I also noticed they used an ai cover, them I decided to do some more digging and most books ( on scribblehub) especially with smut or bl genre have loads of views when they use ai covers, and so that’s what I did I just put an ai cover and my views skyrocketed ( I was genuinely so happy ) so not like Im saying it’s right or anything but it depends on the genre.

I wouldn't care as long as it is disclosed as AI. If you monetize then you should get new art as you can afford it. But thats only my opinion.
Agree.
Just make sure it's mentioned if you use it.

Personally, I have a lot of fun making book covers using free elements and platforms. However, I get the appeal. If using AI worries you in any way, just don't do it. There are some people that get put off by it anyway.

As a reader, I am more drawn to non-AI created book covers though. It's just more creative and interesting.

Personally, A free book should be allowed to do as it pleases.
Asking for money/ patreon/ kofi or throwing it onto RR, --> use real art. Don't be a garbage person.

same for people who use Ai to write stories.
If you want to write and post here, go ahead use Ai as much as you want. I don't really care. It's ugly in my opinion and should be highly edited (which editing is the WORST part of writing, but do you). I don't care. I probably won't read it anyway if it has too many Ai edits.
If you're saying "I want to really publish my story somewhere", but using ai to write it, then you're an asshole.. learn to write.

Ai is a tool to help, and should be used as such.
Not the hand creating the work, while you j/o in the corner waiting to take credit.

I can't believe this is even a topic in the first place.
How does it concern anyone if I use AI for a book cover or not?
Mine was made by Ai and I earn from the book. The book I spent my time and energy into writing.
No one's ever call me out for that, and if they ever do, I'm cursing their 32 generations!
To me, people who criticize others for using AI, even for the smallest things are moralistic and worthless, not even worth listening to.
AI is there for a reason, how others use it shouldn't be of concern to anyone.
If you don't like it, ignore it.
Why criticize it?
There are far more worse things than the use of AI, but no, they'll never see that and instead call out others just because they paid for theirs.
An Ai book cover?
Why would someone even dislike others for that?!

It's not really my business if someone uses an AI cover or not, especially if they're not making money off the book. Personally, I would click on a story with a poorly-designed cover made by an actual person over something that is obviously AI-generated, and I'd never use AI for any of mine. I think it's terrible how it was trained off the hard work of artists who got no compensation for it, and I don't like how it's taking away jobs for graphic designers and digital artists. So if it's a book someone is making money off of, they should use a cover made by a real person. But people shouldn't turn it into a witch hunt either. And I wouldn't criticize someone using it for a free story.
