This is it.
The final battle.
However, you weren't prepared.
You didn't know what would happen.
You hoped it wouldn't be the worst, but you were wrong; it was worse than the worst you had imagined.
But it's okay.
To face the final threat, you have something with you.
Something you take everywhere.
It's your pendant, a twelve sided medallion holding strange indecipherable runes on each edge. Gifted to you by a wizened sage, said to be enlightened to the truths of the world, at the very start of your journey.
At that time, he spoke of the profound mysteries of nature, secrets that you, in your youth, found too arcane to comprehend. Warning you to keep the artifact at all times.
But among all the other enigmas that he had vested upon you, one remained rooted in your heart, resonating with your very being.
"Even should you reach the ends of the earth, you will find your journey far from finished"
Yet seeing the scene before you, a glimpse of understanding seemed to have struck you.
A vast expanse of beasts, gargantuan behemoths that towered even mountains, the vilest demons, monstrosities you once deigned to even imagine.
And what lay past them, the aim of this decisive battle, a realm beyond your own, bearing a heavy ominous power seeping into the land below you, corrupting your world.
All others behind you trembled at its wake. Armies gathered by every nation, led by the finest warriors and wisdom your planet could offer, all assembled to safeguard your realm.
Strangely though, despite the odds far outweighing your side, you were confident.
Letting go of the pendant you had been holding so tightly before, you couldn't help but grin.
Finally, you advanced, following every combatant.

You failed.
"Well done mortal, truly."
A blade was viciously pierced to your chest, slowly draining your life from you.
"You are the first creature to wound me since my last war with the heavenly gods." The being before you, the source of all this chaos, spoke.
The armies of the world succeeded in piercing through against the odds, and although the sacrifices were enormous, you and a few of the world's greatest elites managed to infiltrate the enemy's land.
And yet you couldn't have imagined,
"Pride yourself in achieving such an accomplishment."
[The Fallen God]
A being that transcended the heights that humanity couldn't even fathom to understand.
Failure was inevitable, for in truth, the combined might of all the demonic forces that the being before you wielded, failed to even touch the soles of his feet.
As the light faded in your eyes, you focused all your energy to see the culmination of your life's efforts.
A single scratch,
One that failed to even draw blood.

"Huh?" A sound escaped your lips. "I live?"
You looked around to find a familiar room, a room you stayed upon before you began your journey.
As you step outside, you begin to see more familiar things laid across you, from the furniture, the house, and even,
"Hey, I thought you were going to rest?"
A familiar old friend.
You clenched your fist, feeling the weak, yet definitive strength held within it.
It was no dream, you had truly returned.
"...Are you okay, man? Why are you grinning, did you finally lose it?" Your old friend asked, partially worried and partially weirded out.
"No, just had a bit of a funny dream." You answered calmly.
Turning to the horizon beyond your window, a strange yet confident thought came to you.
You will face
him again, but...
This time, it will not end the same way.
