You ever get to a point in your story where you can go this way, that way, which way, what way, how this way appear?

And then your brain just goes: :sweating_profusely::blob_upset::blob_whistle_two::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blob_hmm::blobreading:??????????

Because any/all of the paths ahead are feasible and would work-- but you have to make the choice(s) now that will impact further choices down the road?

Writing is "choose your own adventure" with a side of "lament your choices away now fool!"

When I do, I stop working on a novel/serial fiction and work on an RPG scenario so the players can pick which path to take... maybe I'll take notes and use what they do in a story later.

That's a good idea! A lot of times I tend to write a few pages in each direction and see which path I liked better. But it gets time consuming.

I tend to look at it like this:

1. What is the next plot point I need to meet for the story to progress to the ending I want/envision?

2. What needs to happen to get to that plot point?

3. What is the most in character action that will cause the character the most trouble down the road well they work towards their goal.

You have several possible directions, all of which are attractive to you??!! Time to celebrate. Your creative juices overflow. Enjoy the moment. You are obviously working on a great story. Congratulations.

In a linier magnitude, like I am writing lets say a fight which lasts for like 2-3 chapters, sure, a hundred different ideas come into mind for me to choose to use. But every single one of them will lead to what I originally planned. It's good to have big imagination but if you're facing a blank canvas it doesn't do you any favors. You need to limit it in order to start producing its perverted magic.
