A lot of my animes that I love are more of the oldies, but goldies. There's
Slayers with Lina Inverse (the dub is my favourite) and Naga is my girl,
Trigun, anything
Ghost in the Shell. 90s was just the peak of anime. Like watch
Gun Cats, absolutely amazing, deserved more than four OVA episodes, hands down.
I've even rewatched
Sailor Moon (and it was such a mood that TeamFourStar also released some Sailor Moon just a few weeks after), and its better than I remember. But it also wasn't the DiC dub I remember as a child, so it was different getting used to it. Other magical girl animes I loved and rewatched was
Pretear,
Petite Princess Yucie,
Fancy Lala (does she count? admittedly it is hard to watch as an adult, because it is for little children). Of course, I love
Revolutionary Girl Utena, Madoka is amazing but a bit grim at times.
It was also really refreshing to watch
Ah! My Goddess again, because of just how wholesome and fun it is, like their dynamic really wanted me to write "Looking Beyond Ourselves" because I just loved how Belldandy is with Keiichi. Highly recommend it.
Revisiting
Vampire Knight was... a mistake. Highly recommend it as a drinking game anime. You will get effed up. Same with
Dance in the Vampire Bund (maybe it's a little better but still really weird to watch as an adult now).
Magi; still angry we only got two seasons and one following Sinbad. It's not perfect, a lot of the pervert humour is really annoying tbh
I'm also a fond old fan of the .hack//series like
.hack//SIGN and
.hack//Liminality (which were four OVAs included with the IMOQ games. So I usually watch that. The animation isn't great, absolutely listen to the Sub for SIGN, but just enjoy a story about people connecting over an MMO.
I have a conflicted relationship with CLAMP. Like,
Chobits is really starting to resonate with modern day, but dear god it is hard to watch and makes me cringe into myself. And there's
Magic Knight Rayearth and
Card Captor Sakura. Absolutely
hated Blood-C (the infamous one with the murderous bunnies), just watch
Blood+ and the originally
Blood: the Last Vampire film (it's on youtube btw:
).
Tsubasa Chronicles is interesting, but really anything with Yuki Kajiura's music is a bop: like
Noir and
My-Hime. Look her up: she worked on
Fate, SAO, .hack//SIGN, Madoka Magica,
Demon Slayer, etc. Her and Yoko Shimomura <3 <3
