Today, I filled in for my dad in cleaning our gutters for the first time in my life. I’ve never been much good with heights, so it was quite a daunting experience. I can still feel my heart beating rapidly. There was a point where one of the railings bent in a little, and I nearly had a heart attack.

To get to a tall enough height to see everything, there was this one final step I always had to climb on, and it was always the scariest one. The mere act of climbing it made my legs feel like jello and that I could collapse at any moment. However, I couldn’t allow myself to panic at such a height. Then I’d fall for real.

Thankfully, I didn’t. I kept myself under control by breathing, not looking down, and focusing on the task at hand. I was able to clean all the pipes after a few hours of work (most of the time spent on thanking God for allowing me to live another second).

I’m glad I was able to get the job done.

I was going to comment about you being dyslexic, but I get you.

Also, FEAR they say is Fight Everything And Rise or Forget Everything And Run.

I prefer Fudged Everything And Rekted.

Congrats!

I've cleaned the gutters a couple of times. My dad and I are the same height, so I didn't have any excuse not to until my husband moved in. Since he's taller than everyone else and can reach farther, it means we don't have to move the ladder as often, and so he's the logical choice. I'm pretty sure the parental units are back to cleaning the gutters on their own this year, though. I mean, we COULD go back over there to help them clean the gutters, but since I'm pregnant, standing for long periods of time sucks, and with Covid, it's not like Mom or Dad would be willing to hold the ladder while Husband did the gutter clearing, so . . . yeah. Not happening this year.

I fell off my roof cleaning gutters once. It was the most embarrassing fall I’ve ever had. I was only on the first floor roof, so it wasn’t too high, but I ended up rolling off like I was tumbling down a hill and landed in a hedge in the front entrance. I only had a few scrapes from branches thankfully. After that I started strapping myself to the house with ratchet straps.

My advice to you: whenever you find yourself in a terrifying situation, reach for a ratchet strap. They will always be there for you (Unless you buy the cheap ones. They ain’t loyal).
