Today, I filled in for my dad in cleaning our gutters for the first time in my life. I’ve never been much good with heights, so it was quite a daunting experience. I can still feel my heart beating rapidly. There was a point where one of the railings bent in a little, and I nearly had a heart attack.
To get to a tall enough height to see everything, there was this one final step I always had to climb on, and it was always the scariest one. The mere act of climbing it made my legs feel like jello and that I could collapse at any moment. However, I couldn’t allow myself to panic at such a height. Then I’d fall for real.
Thankfully, I didn’t. I kept myself under control by breathing, not looking down, and focusing on the task at hand. I was able to clean all the pipes after a few hours of work (most of the time spent on thanking God for allowing me to live another second).
I’m glad I was able to get the job done.
