External HDD to play games (help out a fellow gamer)

Okay this is a follow up on the potato laptop games thread...

Is it alright to install and play games off the external hard-drive?

I checked google, it says it could give lower rpm. But considering I'm looking to play Civ. it should not be an issue, right?

im playing games with external drive just make sure is usb 3.0 and the port is also usb 3. you just gotta be careful not to suddenly remove the drive

I actually install a few games at a time, and when I'm done with one of them, I delete it and install another one from my harddrive instead of pilling games.

Not recommended, better do what @BenJepheneT said, unless you're absolutely sure that it's securely connected at all time.
