my friend just told me an idea for a story one day and asked me if I would like to write a story based on the idea (I am not a writer but I try)To be fair, I didn't read it past that point LMAO. (I like writing ya know, so why would I keep reading?)
Could you please check out my story it's called Code RedI think for me, the reason I stopped writing is because I was able to get my goal without being an author.
I was writing so I could make personal connections with others, so when I started frequenting the forums I was able to reach those goals in an easier way.
I still think that I want to write something, but the reason/goal for it just isn't there.
Writing as an income source isn't viable for me since I live in a high cost of living nation, and fame isn't quite what I'm looking for.
My writing will never be good enough for publishing, and that's really still just the fame/money goal in disguise.
Until I get a new reason to write I probably won't do it at all.
I know the topic is about getting big on Scribblehub, but this is not the correct place to promote your story.Yeah

And here I am publishing the story here and some other platforms

Many years of happy writing to you. You can always change your goals and adjust, just keep being honest.Man, this is harsh, but indeed correct.
I also started to write as hobby, saying that all I need that I like the story I wrote. But after I publish it, I started to have thought that I want to have readers and gain money from my work.
After considering a bit about it, I decided to continue it as a hobby since gaining money from the book you wrote is a lot of work, much more than writing the story's itself.
So, thank you. This post has reminded me that I started it as a hobby. I was still unsure if I should become a full time writer, but you helped me made my mind. I will continue to write, but it will be my hobby, or side job at best.

Yeah, I made a mistake here. Should've been, "It is a deceit. They decieve themselves first and foremost. The amount of people that actually CAN write for themselves and really enjoys typing or writing down stuff for no particular reason is miniscule, and none of you here are this perosn." Thank you for pointing this out.**It is a deceit. They decieve themselves first and foremost. Wait, you guys don't like writing? LMao.
Yeah that's fair, and I can agree to that. Many years of happy writing to you. You can always change your goals and adjust, just keep being honest.

I am not talking about what is the optimal motivation, that's not my point at all. I am saying you(generic you) have to be honest to yourself, and adjust your approach to suit what motivates you.Yeah that's fair, and I can agree to that.
Like, if their was no internet at all/way to make money off-writing I'd probably still write cuz I just enjoy the feeling of it. But it be wrong for me to say that I don't have secondary motives outside of ("I really like writing") like (I'd like to make money.)
I think the optimal motivation is to tie somewhat your enjoyment of writing to your secondary goals revolving around it. For example, I really like writing, and there's specific things I want to write; That's why I need to focus on writing in a way that brings me money, because that's how I can keep writing and live well. Or, I want to keep writing, but I also want people to see my work and like it.
Of course, some people really do just have this specific thing they want more then the actual act itself, and that's fine. Your main goal doesn't need to be "Keep writing", you can prioritize something else if you want, but when you only go "I want to write" and then you end up getting broke or being frustrated that you got no attention, then you (Repwrath) are right that they probably should do some introspection to understand more why they want to write past just maybe the thrill or idea of it.
Though writing, when you don't like it? That's a bit weird to me lmao.
I was just stating my opinion their, I already agreed that being honest with urself is important lol.I am not talking about what is the optimal motivation, that's not my point at all. I am saying you(generic you) have to be honest to yourself, and adjust your approach to suit what motivates you.
With write for yourself there isn't really anything harmful you can do. Apart from forgetting this goal, which is similar to what happened to Hans; this resulted in him almost dropping writing as a hobby. As for why I elaborate so much on getting famous and\or getting money, it is because those goals have plenty of misconseptions around them. Harmful ones that lead to authors dropping writing.
I repeated myself just in case.I was just stating my opinion their, I already agreed that being honest with urself is important lol.
