What are some tips you have for editing your work? It could be certain software you use or general tips and tricks.
my tip:
If you are writing in a word document, you can use the read-aloud feature to help with editing. I have a nasty habit of skipping words and repeating myself. Using this helps catch those mistakes

Don't edit it right after you wrote it. Let it stew and come back later to fix errors.

Read it out loud to yourself. You’ll spot a lot of errors and weird phrasing you wouldn’t have otherwise.

Use text to speech to catch anything you don’t catch otherwise. When you read something yourself you tend to self correct but a robot voice will read it just as it’s written. I stopped doing this because it’s so time consuming but it helps you verify that you got everything

I use a grammar checker: LanguageTools. Plus, I turn the chapter into an MP3 and listen to it afterwards. For my Smashword projects, I put the chapters through a second wave of editing, before I make the manuscript. (Then I put the manuscribt up for formatting, and the author who does me this service also does a proofreading service for me. Together with the cover, I pay 110$ in total for that.)

In a somewhat similar vein to @Forestbear, write a few more chapters before going back to edit them, but also write down goals/intentions before or as you write.

Then reread the goals you set for that section of content. What emotions, impressions or ideas should have come across, how did they turn out?
Do try to keep the changes you make from that small in scale though.
