As the title says, down with it! :blob_ghost: Why do people chat in the discord server when they can post in sh forum? And uh... Running out of ideas! >.<

And yeah! Nuffians think people in sh are very serious and simple minded. They take offense easily. But I saw in discord that the scenario is different. There are rpers in discord too. And spammers as well. The site itself is doing really well, it should make sense if the forum grows as well right?

PS: I am just kidding. I am not even active on sh disc

PS: Hey I recommended tony to add Groovy bot :blob_popcorn: Thank me.

I think we should fix that

Maybe I can actually participate in the NUF community for one.

An NUF Discord would be the death of NUF, though, as it is with many threads and sites.

What's putting you off NUF? We can maybe help out.
Exactly. What's wrong with you people? The forum is so welcoming and nice. It's an entire family out there...

The main difference (to me) between forums like this and Discord is the real-time aspect.

This makes just chatting a lot more difficult on forums than Discord. If I typed in like 5 words per post, and made a whole bunch of those, I'm going to be reported for spamming. On Discord, that's completely normal.
Forums are still better though, at things like asking for writing advice or novel recommendations or bug reports, etc, since in Discord, those things get quickly buried, and is harder to search for.

Which is why I use both for SH.

As for why I don't use NUF, well uh the first time I looked there, I remember being very confused (albeit this was a really long time ago).

Edit: See, another problem with forums is that by the time you typed up your reply, two people above you posted something in between. In Discord, you can see (x is typing...) and since the amount of stuff you type tends to be shorter, it's harder for things like that to happen.

Most new things look confusing at first. *pat pat*

Peeps in sh are really intolerant imo. In nuf at least I welcome alerts. You haven't yet experienced the fun of checking alerts in a spam conversation in nuf...

You shouldn't do that on threads, but there are some spam posts on which you can do that...
Also read the faqs. And ask us

Besides a small handful of people (which I believe happen to any community), I don't find it intolerant. Unless my standards are just that low because of experiences in other places

Then why would people report you of spam? Spam is fun, especially if you're participating in that.

Ah, I see... I personally hate real-time chat due to the amount of time it eats up and how people expect immediate answers. Forum style is just nicer to me because you can answer posts out of order or a day later and it's all fine.

NUF can be a little bit confusing. I wonder if we should make some sort of General NUF Tutorial? But you can ask me if you get stuck or lost at all, and you don't have to go everywhere in the forum. Most people only stick to a few places.

I mean I spam often in the community games part in SH.
Not just that, spamming in profile posts is in another level in nuf... Also there is a forum currency called nuffies which make posting a lot more fun...

When new, these all may seem confusing...

Sounds good. But there is already
FAQs
I think @Tony should pin it down in a prominent place...
But really, you can ask us anything you are confused about!

That's pretty helpful~! I think people have trouble finding the places they want to go too, though, like the Yuri Garden and the BL threads.

Why do people chat in the discord server when they can post in sh forum?
The way I see it, discord is for being sociable with fellow Scribblers whereas SHF is for people to have professional/amateur advice and feedback for their SH work/s.
SHF is different from NUF in the purpose for why it exists.
NUF is for people who read translated novels to discuss them, as well as other things.
SHF is for people who write literature to discuss their work, others' work, as well as provide support for one another while being sociable too.
NUF doesn't need an official discord because most of the silly social side of things is meant to be done in the forum.
SHF needs the discord because the silly social side of things needs to be contained in a more lax location.

I don't know if I'm making sense, but that's what I've interpreted of Tony's intentions for the Scribble Hub forum and discord server. I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that.

I'm also not saying that you can't be silly in SHF, cos there are silly posts on profiles, but you need to realise that some people who use SH are ones who haven't come from anime/manga backgrounds, and are using SH/SHF to help propagate their literary careers - which is different from the majority of people who use NUF.

I'm going to stop before I dig my grave even deeper than I already have.

Hm... I still think that SHF is far less sociable than other serious writing communities I've been part of before. More posting will probably ease the tension.
