Does the length of chapter make any difference?

I just posted Chapter 2, but it ended up being pretty long. Is that a turn-off for you as a reader, or is it fine as long as it’s interesting?

Would love some honest feedback on the chapter — pacing, writing, anything that stands out

I've skimmed your chapter at a glance and it's easy to read. You didn't put too many wall of text; heck, the paragraphs are optimized just enough for mobile readers. Combine that with your choice of basic everyday words in a modern setting, I love it.

However, 5,000 words is too long for an early chapter, or a web novel chapter at all. Ideally, it's advised that you make the chapters around 1,000-2,500 words long each. Scrolling on phone is hard enough already, not to mention that mobile readers tend to be on the move (commuting etc). Without proper bookmark function, your readers might have to scroll around again to continue where they left off.

How about splitting the chapter into at least two?

I dont mind long chapters, but if the chapters are less than about 1500 words it becomes a big turnoff for me unless you release multiple chapters at a time.

Thank you for the feedback. I’ll definitely keep it in mind. As for the length, my goal is to pace the rom-com elements a bit faster so I can introduce the main twist earlier and create a story that stands out from traditional rom-coms.

I've added it to my planning to read list for now. I'll check it out when I've got some spare time.
As for the length, well, I'd say write the chapters as long as you need to.
Don't be afraid to break the mold a little. In fact, that kind of thing is exactly what I look for when I'm reading any stories.
Chapters should be as long, or short, as they need to be to get their ideas across.
That said, I do prefer reading stories with more depth and literary weight, and 5,000 words is right around that sweet spot for me. What matters, is whether it is boring or dull to read, or whether the things move forward at a steady pace.
