Does having a more seductive book cover make more view and in turn more reads? Is it an effective strat?

I have been seeing this trend lately on Scribble Hub, Royal Road and as well as Webnovel, where new titles which have seductive anime girls as book cover make more reads than other books which have actual story related art. Do you think, it's good to use this strat as a fellow writer?

Attractive covers will attract views. Sounds simple to me. :blob_cookie:

Oh, to be clear: I believe anything that attracts the eye will have people looking. Thusly more views.

Uhn. It's called the art of clickbait, a bait to lure horny peps.

Well, you could get several views on your novel page, but, if your story or tags/genre isn't the viewer's taste—you know what...

Like mine, for example

Literally anything that doesn't look like it's drawn by a five year old is a good cover. Some say don't judge a book by it's cover but I will definitely judge your cover if it looks like a child's doodles.
We'd likely never know without the author crediting the artist, but in your opinion (and this is only my curiosity about you, so it's not important to answer) what if the doodle on the cover was by a kid?

I mean the first thing that grabs my attention is the title then yes the cover but if you really want me to check out your story tag it properly and write a decent synopsis

Yes, but I wouldn’t because it goes against my moral compass, the people there aren’t the type I’d want associated with me, and such means wouldn’t make the journey feel earned and well concluded.

Honestly I don't care about sexiness. having a seductive book cover doesn't only work with animé girls. A gorgeous picture of a grass field with knights standing in the wind, would work as well.

A bland book cover on the other hand, cannot attract attention. Worse, it suggests that the story behind would be equally as bland.

In the end I recommend a book cover that advertises your best qualities as an author. If that is your sexy animé characters, then it totally makes sense to have a sexy animé girl as a cover. If that is a sense of wonder and exploration, go for beautiful landscapes. If that is sci-fi and weaponry, go for that.

Whether your story is dark, peaceful, exciting or romantic, your cover should reflect that. It's the best way to catch the good readers through your covers in my mind.

As a reader, will say - it will most likely get you more views on your novel page as compared to a poorly done, bland, or no cover at all. It might get you more chapter views if the people like the synopsis and tags as well. But if the cover is all the novel has to show for it, you are not likely to retain the viewers.

You can, but I always skip a novel if you got a hot guy/gal on the cover, but the MC is the opposite gender.

Mainly because irl books that do that are either JP LNs, or western trash romance.

Depends purely on your target audience.
A seductive cover is useless if you are writing an action, or mystery or tragedy novel.

The only reason you see so many of them around is that SH, RR and WN are filled with isekais,

Well, webnovel isn't, which is why i would say it's rare to see an echii cover there, they mostly have a man and woman hugging each other or something.
Final conclusion

It will give you like 200 views on your first day, but then one digit views everyday

Yes, it does help. Having more people click on your story is better. If you're usually getting let's say seven clicks a day and a new cover gets you sixty, of course you should switch to the new cover. You need people to click on your story to even retain them in the first place.

I can confirm this personally. Went from a busy cover with multiple characters to a single cover with an attractive female character and my views literally multiplied. Now that story is growing steadily.

I'd just recommend that your cover is relevant to what is inside the story. Obviously, putting a swimsuit model on a cover for a story about WWII pilots won't do you any good. If possible, I'd recommend getting an artist to draw a character from your story and use that. If that's out of your budget, I'm sure there's plenty of stock pics/photos you could use in place.
