First of all, I think the death note only works on humans. As such Goku would be fine.

Next, even if it can. It probably depends on if the Shinigami King is strong enough... but that isn't explained much.

But I would still guess that it only works on in universe humans though.

It doesn't work on Shinigami.

Shinigami is what is in the D&D terminology called Outsiders. A being from the different plane of existence.

They aren't any others for the setting, but you could logically assume that the Death Note wouldn't work on other kinds of Outsiders because Shinigami didn't fathom that there could be others, so other extra-dimensional beings would be massive out of context problem for them.

Damn bloody whoever the writer chooses to win, that's who! It's all made up for Christ sake, there's no bug that'll make you ejaculate web fluids..welp there maybe a cancer that'll make you look like the thing, but the point is that all these powers are made up and the comparison doesn't make sense when the world works differently in different franchises.


Ignoring the spoilsport, I don't think the shinigami king's jurisdiction reaches beyond the earth's cycle of life and death. So Goku who's literally yama's SiL, has connections to not just universal entities (beerus, etc) but multiversal (quite literally the ruler of all multiverse Grand Zeno)

Even at the direst straits, let's say death note world just exists at higher level conceptually cause it's mirrored closer to our own so Goku is screwed if his name comes up. Goku can call on Grand Zeno when in the shinigami realm, we all know Grand Zeno can survive the very void of absolute destruction of a timeline and multiverse without so much as a sweat, so crushing a life and death cycle of a single planet would be easier than sleeping.


So yeah Goku will be fine
