Does anyone use the glossary feature?

So today I started filling out a SH glossary, hoping that it would help readers quickly catchup despite my infrequent updating.

The thing is, I went searching around to see examples of how other people were using the glossary, and I could not find anything.

Does anyone else use the glossary on SH?

I took @TheEldritchGod idea and ran a few chapters through claude ai to get a summary of named character. Though I think they tweaked their website to only allow really small docs on their free service now so it isn't so useful anymore.

I look at them if they are there, but I don't think it is worth the effort for how few people do look at them.

I keep thinking I should for Between Worlds because the cast grew very quickly but I haven't yet.

I use the glossary it helps in laying out prominent characters and locations (though I've got some images to add for locations) but it's very useful for people who want to look back at certain things, I always see two or three people check out the glossary when I look at the views from time to time.

I use a glossary in my romance Princess of the Void to keep track of a pretty large cast of noblewomen. Not sure how much it's used but people tend to page over to it according to the analytics so I guess it's being looked at here and there.

I used to update my glossary when I wanted to write but didn't want to think.
I've seen other people use it to upload character art.

Other than that, it's pretty rare.

I use them to upload character art, so I don’t have to keep describing how they look in Chapter 101910. I used to include one about the kingdom too, back when I was still writing a story with proper worldbuilding.


And readers do check them out.

I wanted multiple glossaries, one per book, so people wouldn't be spoiled about later characters. My attempt to make multiple glossaries seemed to confuse it and it stopped saving new ones, they would disappear after I saved them.

I would develop your own system. You don't have to do be just like others in how you do it. That is the beauty of it. And its being free also. Like FREEDOM. We want to do it our way. But looking at other models helps.

But there is 1 tricky aspect of a glossary that can make it a problem. That is... OK when you put everything in the glossary, you haven't put up the whole story yet. So if you put stuff in the glossary it can reveal plot twists and future chapter characters before you are ready for it. I like to be able to surprise the readers. The story IS about surprising them (and sometimes scaring them as long as its not too much).

I think if the position of the glossary on the web page was changed, more people would use it. Otherwise, it will continue to be a mostly unused feature
