For chill and thoughtful parts i tend to listen to classical or jazz, for action scenes i got two steps from hell and mick gordon, and for in-between any NCS music.

I'd think it depends on the genre you're writing like if I was writing a western I wouldn't be listening to pop music

what genre are you trying to write?
I'm not writing anything particular at the moment; I was just curious to find out what everyone else listens to!

Always! But it can't be music with singing because that's too distracting for me. ? Usually I go for some instrumental game music or relaxing ambient music with Japanese/Chinese melodies. I also find that my writing music can't be too dramatic or I can't focus either. I prefer music to stay in the background so that I almost forget it's playing but it's still soothing me.
