Do you ever go back and re-write old chapters?

I generally repair grammar and punctuation mistakes if I notice them when re-reading. I also have occasionally made minor edits such as butane → propane when I realized that you can't really buy butane for a cooker in a walmart. However, sweeping changes are an absolute nono. For one thing I don't want to change the past too much because you never know where you're going to introduce a plot hole. Also I want my story to be finished at some point and constantly messing with linear time is not conducive to that. I have used the chapter reorganize feature exactly once to introduce new events between chapters in a way which could be interpreted as "yeah, there was just enough unaccounted time for that to have always had happened", and even that felt like cheating a bit.

Before I publish them, I do go back all the time to retroactively build in some foreshadowing or facts to make things fit better in the later parts. After publishing I just edit the formatting and errors wherever I find them.

I'm literally in the middle of rewriting the first 100 chapters... it's gonna take a few months. I'm slow when I'm not inspired.

I believe it's a necessary part of the writing process. Refining and improving are essential to deliver an end product that is the best it can be.

Of course, in fact, I will review it regularly to avoid forgetting the previous foreshadowing or the information the characters have obtained and such. Since my novel requires some historical research, I will often search and correct it

After one or two months, when my mind calms down after the hype it felt when wrote those chapters :v But mostly, it is to add filter to fix the pace and paragraph structure.
