Do you differentiate what is good and what you like?

Do you think about it?

When I was younger, I started to think about the difference between what is good and what I like.

Started to think about
What is technically brilliant?
What is "morally" good as a piece of media?
What is groundbreaking?
What is a work that contributes to social discourse?
What is resonating with the human condition?
What is mechanically mind-blowing?
What is pure pleasure?
What is primally reactive?
What is provocative?
What is "fun"?
What is "Good"?

I wondered how these elements jived with what I like?

So is the question?
Do you find yourself wondering? Do you like something because it's good? Or is it good because you like it?

Just because something is good doesn't mean I always like it but I can at least appreciate that it is good despite having different taste. I can also like something without it being good and recognize that it isn't good.

Good illustration of why people like you, Paul. I for example thought of liking shit, and recognizing it is shit.

I enjoy a lot of things that are not very brilliant or innovative. They are merely enjoyable. "Good" is a very malleable term.

I like GL. Is it good? No. The stories usually have no plot and just plain sucks. But that's what make them better. Who need plots if you have horny?

Do you find yourself wondering?
Yes. A lot of times.
Do you like something because it's good?
I like something because I think it's good. However, 'good' depends on someone's beliefs and values. For example, some of my friends find it appaling that I purposefully avoid 'staring' at other ladies even though I'm single. However, my upbringing and recent experiences only reinforced my belief that doing so while loving someone is 'cheating'.

I try to keep my vows, see?
Or is it good because you like it?
I don't think I'm someone with a high moral compass to say that the things I like are good.

I understand some things are good even though I personally don't like them.

This post falls under the subjectivity of what's "good" or "bad". I'm not into GL/Yuri for example. Did I consider it a bad thing? No. But if I say LitRPG is bad, then I'd expect people verbally attacking me because of my hot take. But at its core, it's not a bad genre.

None of them are bad, but none of them are good either. It depends on the eye of everyone's perspective.

Unless we all are a sheep.
