Difference in image sizes between browser and mobile sites?

Just something weird I've noticed. If I'm using the forums from my computer, it never has any trouble when I want to post a picture or a gif. But if I do it from my phone on the mobile site, roughly half the images and pretty much all of the gifs I try to post get blocked for being too big. Is there a difference in the size of the images you're allowed to post on the browser and mobile sites? And if so, does anybody know what the difference is?

Similar question from me...

i'll sit there, trying to add a picture to a post.
several times it will say "too big"
sometimes, one of them "goes through" and it posts.
???
i feel like a little kid, beating the square peg into the round hole, but... it (eventually) works.

this is on a laptop, but using phone hotspot for internet.

I never have problems...
But then again I put all my image in fixed sizes using bbcodes.

I.e.
