I finally posted my first marketing post on the royalroad subreddit and all the comments except one basically say that Mhordredd looks like a sex offender on the cover, or that it looks like a sub-dom story.

It kinda is a sub-dom story. Wistelry is so weak and literally wears a collar, like all the magic users. Mhordredd takes her in and she lets herself get dragged around until she finally grows a spine. There's murder, abuse themes, we cover slavery as a societal norm, I mean...I'm alienating the right people with my cover as-is. Anyone who sees it and is like "oh this is evil and anyone who puts his hands on a girl's shoulders is evil and predatory!" probably shouldn't read it, you know?

But I'm still over here like, "maybe I'm desensitized because I live on the part of the internet where futa and hentai and harems are the lay of the land, but I don't think a girl with a collar or her friend/crush standing protectively over her is a problem."

Smh.

Know what? Fair! ? Idk I was proud of the cover and I got my feathers ruffled because I kind of expected to be ignored and instead the post has "woah don't let this guy alone with your kids" vibes.

I mean can you even imagine if I posted an actual risque cover? The horror. The horror!!!

Reddit (and RoyalRoad) is full of neo-Puritans, which is a little ironic considering 50% of Reddit is porn.

Been there. Still there. I mean, the demoralization part brought by the reception of my work.

But yeah, I turned a blind eye and deaf ear. Because I really want to write, even when no one is reading it...also, maybe because I want to finish sonething I started.

You'll get through that, given enough stubborness or courage to stand up for what you want. Or, if you decide to give up, at least you can refocus your energies to something else that might make you truly happy.

When are you getting a name change.
Why would I change my name? I just have to go to Walmart and buy some new basketballs. I mean, yeah, it's a waste of money when I had a perfectly good pair that got crushed for no reason, but changing my name is just an overreaction.

Your lack of balls to change your name is disappointing.
Meh. I've got more.

Marketing is more than making one brilliant post that is expertly designed to attract your target audience.

If you want a positive reception on Reddit, you need people to set the mood. Be it "internet friends" or women, if you do not have one, pay some.
A post where the first reply is negative is much more likely to attract further negative attention. After all, birds like to shit in the same place.

But I'm still over here like, "maybe I'm desensitized because I live on the part of the internet where futa and hentai and harems are the lay of the land, but I don't think a girl with a collar or her friend/crush standing protectively over her is a problem."
Then perhaps your target audience lives there, too. Have you posted your ads around your part of the internet?

Ai-chan didn't want to say this, but on closer look, he does look like a sex offender. You know, like Biden. He's probably not a sex offender, but his gestures give that kind of vibe. But is that so wrong? We can have soylent, why not sex offenders too? Sex offenders are people!

Honestly, I think you're on to something. I did not know that the bird-thing would happen. I was amazed watching it. It's hilarious tbh. It's like the people who wouldn't have said anything if it had a positive comment first felt emboldened to rag on it because the first person who posted did.

Hey guys, I went to the ball crushing factory today and they crushed my balls. I had no idea they crushed balls at the ball crushing factory. If only there had been some kind of warning.

Fair. Very fair. ?
