I asked earlier about angels. And I received good answers. Now it's time for the complete opposite. How do demons figure into your story? What role do they play and how do they differ from the rest? And especially what role does hell play in all this.

Spoiler: My demons

Demons, like sinners, suffered in eternal torment. But over time they noticed a strange change. The strong wind in the layer of lust ceased to exist. The vultures pecking at the trees froze like corpses. They found out what was happening. God is dead. And they realized that it was time to fight for freedom. The demons themselves are absolutely classic with the Bible. But due to the science fiction setting, changes have clearly occurred. They use sinful engineers to build machines and prosthetics for war. And weaker sinners are like fuel for robots. So basically demons just biblical creatures with cybernetic features

Honestly. Demons are such an interesting concept that many people underestimate. Especially Chainsaw Man. Almost all the demons there are completely cringe. So it's good to know how you dealt with it.

In my story, that hasn't been released yet. Demons are cursed humans who now have turned into monsters and must consume humans to keep their sanity. They are tortured souls who fight to keep their reason intact before they turn into a beast without reason. However, they lose touch with their humanity whenever they are raging.

This makes them extremely unpredictable when angered.

In my story, that hasn't been released yet. Demons are cursed humans who now have turned into monsters and must consume humans to keep their sanity. They are tortured souls who fight to keep their reason intact before they turn into a beast without reason. However, they lose touch with their humanity whenever they are raging.

This makes them extremely unpredictable when angered.

That's just humans but under the laws of limited time.
I've yet to have a demon of my own since my work is all but original.

I write the traditional/folklore demons, they are honestly more compelling than evil creatures from hell.

Demon in the traditional sense are manipulative spirits so you can get very creative with that. Demon can come from nature or born from a concentration of negative emotions in places like the slums.

Or going Gnosistic, demon is simply another term for lesser god.

From something I'm writing, I like to distract reader with the negative association with the term for someone who is the incarnation of goodness just for the backlash of them not betraying the character.

My demons are typically soulless creatures made mostly of magic whose sole motivation is to fulfill their alignment to acquire power. They accumulate power by encouraging and indulging in their aligned sin to feed the 'flavor' of souls they corrupt. Most of the time, demons just devour souls to directly empower their demonic pseudo-souls.

They come in a variety of evolvable races that fall into a gradient of three categories:

DESIRE : Lust, greed, gluttony
DISINTEREST: Sloth, dejection, apathy
DISGUST: Wrath, pride, envy

Of course, I'm writing shameless smut so make of that whatever the heck you want.

They're not prominent in my story other than the subtle touches they leave based on my personal philosophy. Demons are invisible forces inside everyone. If you feed them, they win.

Why Do Demons Exist?

Since I go with my my Monad magic system, Meme=Life=Magic, then the thoughts produced by Top Monad users become "free mana" Positive Mana is two up one down, where as "negative" mana is two down, one up. When people USE Positive mana, it becomes negative, but when demon's use Negative mana, it becomes positive. Therefore we have a "Mana Cycle", just like the "carbon cycle" or "oxygen cycle" that exists in nature.

So, What happens if good wins and all demons are destroyed?

Well, Negative mana will pool ad begin to flow throught "Dragon channels" not to be confused with "Ley Lines" They are a planet's circulatory system. If there are no demons, Negative mana starts to pool and demons start to appear. Pool too much in one area, you get "dungeons" Demons can eat one annother's demonic core to become more powerful, however, there is a threshhold where a demon gains the status of "Demon Lord" A "Next level" to demonic existence.

Demon Lord

Demonic Monads are the most physical of the monads and so manifest with demonic cores for living beings. This gives them an edge on Angels in the normal world, but they have less strength when fighting in pure memetic dimensions.

I go for the classic idea of demons in my story, malevolent spirits that constantly try fuck over people by making faustian deals. As a spirit they don't have a physical form until they're forcefully pulled into the material world.

Where they come from and why they do this is one of the many mysteries in my story's world.

Calling the devil demons is a complete misnomer. I see them as memetic entities that have some small similarities to cognitohazard. They are still interesting but not as demonic entities.

So in my story demons are depicted as these beings called "The Tainteds" and "Devils" but before we get to them let's get to how they are created and their origin.

All originated from a phenomenon called "The Tainting" which is an event where a person's emotional trauma become so severe that their ego dies and leaves behind the husk that is a tainted. On a very rare chance however, the trauma could be severe enough a devil may be created instead. There is a few requirements for the tainting to occur however. Such requirements are:
The subject must be on the breaking point of their emotions
Subject must have been affected by the miasma( condensed malice in the form of smoke/fog)
Subject must have tasted despair

If all these requirements are fulfilled the victim will die and the tainting will occur.
A tainted is a very ominous being. They are not alive or living yet they can still move and act like a deformed machine. A tainted will act based on its victim's cause of trauma and attack anything on sight. Based on safeholders, currently there are 7 known traumas that can be the cause of tainteds which are:
Lust
Envy
Pride
Wrath
Gluttony
Greed
Sloth

On the extremely rare case that a devil is born. All is razed to oblivion in its vicinity. A devil is a deformed version of the tainted that represents more than one trauma. However, theres a rare chance that a devil will only represent one trauma which in that case, it is extremely dangerous and a lot stronger than a normal devil. A devil can show signs of sentience and react to unexpected occurrences but they are ultimately still non living and soulless, acting on its victim's trauma/s.

A victim of the tainting is considered already dead and there is no way to cure one of tainting besides extermination.

In my story, the supernatural doesn't exist. There are rare fauna like dinosaurs and other extinct animals but nothing like demons.
