Having a character that is generally good or excels in every form of fighting is extremely boring.

I would rather watch a mage that knows piss all about hand to hand or swordplay, and has no asspull sword magic that allows them to be an amazing all rounder against everyone.

It robs classes and specializations of their uniqueness.

Also emotionally indifferent protagonist never really seem emotionally indifferent but Hollywood-esque baby murderer sociopaths i.e. Rhode from 'Summoning the Holy Sword'. The dude was a heartless bastard that took nothing seriously he saw people either as experience, quest givers, or meat to fuck. Also side bar -- despite being a loner, nonathletic gamer in the real world he manages to literally to shrug off being stabbed in the hand without any type of numbing skill or adrenaline rush is bull.
