Crying MCs?

I expect that an MC who cries is one of those character traits with no happy medium. Few readers like an MC who only rarely cries, while a whole lot prefer either an MC who never cries (which can be the case for several reasons, not just psychopathy or invulnerability), or an MC who is very free with their emotions and cries every chapter. I guess my advice is to just try to be consistent about how expressive your MC is and try to accept that there will be readers who hate him for crying too much and readers who hate him for crying too little.

It honest doesn't matter to me, crying (that is talked about here) is a bodily reaction to reduce emotions, the reasoning behind crying is the interesting part. I love to observe the behaviors of characters, I'm interested in the ways they rationalize the world and apply the given rationalizations, a sidenote would be that a character needs to have debt.

It's okay if they are crying NOT for overly sentimental or some melodramatic sh*ts.

As long as it matches the characters personality and is appropriate for what the setting is. I don't see a problem. I write characters who cry all the time. It's realistic. Even if the characters are guys.

I'm probably in a minority but I grew up in a family with a very emotionally sensitive dad and younger brother who weren't afraid to cry and did so probably more often than me the girl in the family.

But even my mother and other younger brother who don't cry often, would have times they'd cry. My mom when she was super touched or if she hurt horribly by someone. (Usually my brothers).

My other brother, would cry the least but there were times he cried because he was pretty proud and prideful person and so sometimes when his pride got super bruised by others he would cry.

Many real people cry and for different reasons. Why can't characters? To me that makes them relatable. People who don't like crying characters are probably not very empathetic people and would rather have MC's with personalities of a wooden stick.

It depends. All the stress and anxiety has to make the MC break every few arcs. Naruto crying near the end of waves. That’s fine. Luffy crying after his fight with Ussop and two other important moments, that’s fine. But Deku? No, forget him and his Ka-Chan.

I consider one piece to be a prime example on how to not depict crying, the anime made it look either ridiculous or hilarious, the sincere of the emotion matters little if the depiction sucks, regardless if you agree on this example because with searching there are more to find of different nature.
