Cowboys were open-range ranchers. They tended to the cows.Cowboys were farmers.
Ninjas were farmers.
Tending to cattle is a job type for farmers.Cowboys were open-range ranchers. They tended to the cows.
In an enclosed area, yes, as farming is tending an area of land that is devoted primarily to agricultural processes with the primary objective of producing food and other crops. I'm not sure if free-range grazing on wild plants counts, as you're not tending a specific area and are being more of a pastoral/shepherd role.Tending to cattle is a job type for farmers.
That's more "ranching" - which includes farming and animal husbandry. Cowboys included those who just rode the range in cattle drives, as well as those who ran farms, and those who just bred the cattle. Many cowboys were also farmers, as the income was more modest but also more consistent than going on dangerous cattle drives or taking risks at the markets.Tending to cattle is a job type for farmers.

I still think those are all part of farming, whether animals or plants or in an open area or enclosed. Though I understand the difference between cattle driving, shepherding, planting, and breeding cattle, all are part of the FFA and 4H courses on farming in the Midwest and west so I personally believed it is more of an umbrella job title. I am probably wrong though by definition. That's more "ranching" - which includes farming and animal husbandry. If you're from the Midwest, then you might possibly be half right about the West.I still think those are all part of farming, whether animals or plants or in an open area or enclosed. Well... the "half-right" pun was actually pretty accurate in this case. They have BECOME part of the umbrella of what 4F goes into, but historically they were distinct and separate.I still think those are all part of farming, whether animals or plants or in an open area or enclosed.
