Depends on the story. But you should have bigger text for important stuff, like the title, smaller text for the irrelevant stuff, like the author. On this site the authors name doesn’t really matter. Colorful or not colorful really depends on what kind of story you’re writing. I have no idea what you mean by tall or wide.

Then tell me how it should be done.... that kinda sounds... wrong....
Uhh... nun praying in the center of the cover, blood red flames wrapped around her, eastern dragon coming out of swirly clouds in the sky? I dunno, Cadmar, I didn’t put much thought into this.

What is the best type of cover and how should it be posted?

Ex:

Big text or small text?
Colorful or not colorful?
Tall or wide?

P.S.... it's my first post in a while...
A cover that doesn't look just like a random art slapped onto it. (Kinda like a portrait of people vs. just picture of random people walking on street. Or in better words, sometimes what looks like a great image for a background wallpaper isn't really a great image for a background wallpaper). Art cover that doesn't take up whole room on cover and leaves enough room for text to be readable and more nicer aesthetic.

Text that is too hard to read is...while fancy is an eh...not so great. Text should be big but not too much that it takes over the cover (like too many words). Text shouldn't be too miniscule either.

frame the featured art for your cover so that it looks nice. man, this is going into art theory or whatever but usually you want it slightly off-center somehow so you can balance its "weight" with the title text. that means you also want negative spaces where the reader can "breathe" and focal points where their eyes will shift to first.

pick bold colors that stand out. (did you notice a lot of movie covers use orange and blue?) make sure they don't clash (for god's sakes don't put neon green and pink next to each other unless you want to blind us all) and can be distinguished as distinct shapes if you squint at it. remember SH covers are tiny so you don't want readers to see your cover and think "wow what a load of blotches"

typeface is an art and fonts have personality. pick ones that suit the mood of your story best. remember that when put on a cover, words become part of the "picture" so space them out accordingly.

uhhh you can check my covers if you like, i tried to follow my own principles there. (SH's pictures are tiny tho, they look much better on their Wattpad versions)

disclaimer: just an amateur talking, take it with a grain of salt
