Ok... here's on of the user stats windows on one of my stories. 8 dropped..

I would genuinely like to know WHY... I mean make it anonymous obviously ... But I think knowing WHY they dropped a book would be good to know... help out a writer.

then again.. I may be crazy

I'd imagine its less dramatic than you think. Likely they just bounced off enough to not read for a week or two. Then, when they did some housekeeping of their folders they thought 'meh I'm probably done with that' and shifted it out into the dropped pile.

You might get one or two helpful pointers, tbf, not saying it's impossible - but most won't think too deeply about it. Probably a good way to look at it isn't that you did anything wrong, you just didn't do quite enough to keep them hooked.

Some people only use the bookmark feature to mark fiction they're about to read. Then, when they find it disappointing or not to their liking, they drop it from their reading list.

I've never dropped a work, but other members have mentioned it as useful for blocking the works from the latest updates page of the member who dropped it. Ultimately, you can't please everyone or force them to keep reading.

The good news is that even though a bookmark is marked as dropped, it still counts as reader statistics overall. So your author title (rising star, famous author, etc) won't be affected.

I recommend being proactive.
Trap the IP address. Use that to get IRL location. Locate, pick your strike point, then *act*.
you send them a picture of "Pooky" the cat? With a gun to their head.
"Read the book, and review it? Or the cat gets it."
I find this works wonders for my retention statistics.
Why my fans get restraining orders against me, I can't fathom.

If you are like me, you never dropped a work. You put it into completed. This is more polite.

Why anonymous? Encourage them to leave a review. :devilish:

You've never picked up a story you thought you'd enjoy only to realize you're not enjoying it at all? You must be seriously great at judging books by their cover.

I mean, but you haven't completed it though. There are more chapters there that you are refusing to read.

If i never add to reading lists, i never have to drop them.
Or, hear me out, you could have thousands of stories in your "plan to read" list that you'll never have the time to actually read.

You are a South-East Asian trying to be polite. Trying to be something you are not is disingenuous.

Thanks for completing my story. Technically, you already know the ending so there is nothing to read anymore?
Three people already know the final boss is the Slavic Dragon God of Sorcery.

I haven't looked at @Navillus reading list recently but I expect its over 1k by now.
It’s at 883 currently… I haven’t been on SH as much lately but if you combined my reading lists SH, RR, WebNovel, Novelpia etc… well I just did the math and it should be 3,559 currently and that’s not including my manga read lists which is comparable in size~ the scary part is that I’ve managed to read more than half of them… also my reading stats on SH will be slightly off as I only realized I could mark which chapter I was on less than a year ago… I usually use a google doc to track where I am when this happens-nyah.

That's the amount of jobs applications @SirContro and @unlaumy have to apply before being hired. Long live Jokovich!

You can also set it to auto mark after you have been on a page for x amount of time.

Or into the hiatus category with a chapter update letting them know when you will be back.
