I doubt they actually did the paperwork to copyright their work.
That is a common misconception.
You do not need to file for copyright to enjoy it.

Most countries are signatories to the Berne convention; those with the power to police the internet certainly are.
The Berne Convention introduced the concept that protection exists the moment a work is "fixed", that is, written or recorded on some physical medium, and its author is automatically entitled to all copyrights in the work and to any derivative works, unless and until the author explicitly disclaims them or until the copyright expires. A creator need not register or "apply for" a copyright in countries adhering to the convention.

Sorry, what I meant to say is they probably didn't submit their work to a governing body to be able to sue for damages. That's not to say that they can't do that, however the damages that a plaintiff can is lessened by a wide margin if they haven't sent a copy of their work to a government body like the copyright office in the Library of Congress.

Ah, I remember you. I was reading the Kidnapped to Another World story. Couldn't continue it past the Fairy City Arc or whatever it was called. It was the longest arc at that point, with almost nothing happening for 40-50 chapters. You ever edit/fix that? Was like....somewhere in the 300's chapters on RR.
RR basically... went after me for no reason. I think someone weaponized them. It was very strange. I still don't fully understand what happened. But I'd not done anything wrong except had bad editing skills.
