Then what would you suggest @Sii @GDLiZy ? Don't you agree that it's kind of getting redundant seeing the same popular things over and over? I think many of us can agree that we want something fresh at the very least.

Not saying I agree with the idea that horror isn't fun because I completely disagree. I use to write mainly horror, thriller and, psychologicals and people find enjoyment in them. Not all horrors need to be tragedies. There are all kinds of things you can mix in to make it unique. Think about shows like Madoka Magica. That is in a sense horror.

I agree with the redundancy, it's why I don't actually read too much trending stuff and I think I only read two or three Adventum entries because it was for a review offer I made.

I'm firmly in the camp of "I want something fresh!" but I also wouldn't want to see the contest flop because not enough interest was generated. Horror is my number one choice and allowing it to be mixed with various genre would definitely be interesting. Hell, I'm already writing a side project that's a Horror LitRPG blend, leaning heavier towards the horror aspect. If we could get something like that going, encouraging us to genrebend and subvert tropes, then I'm all for it.

We might as well avoid Horror.
If Horror as a theme will end up with a dozen stories 'subverting' the horror, we might as well avoid the genre completely.

Let's face it.
Between one that has a waifu ghost and an actual horror story, we know which will win.

The same thing would happen to pretty much any genre. Even the previous contest has this issue.

since there isn't a judging panel whatsoever the only way this can fly is through the readership and favourites. and since readership and favourites are so god damn easy to farm if you know what you're doing and stick to your guns, everything would just end up as a rehash of what's been done before.

I'm not gonna say that this contest is a bust, but from what I've seen before, it probably isn't gonna change anytime soon.
