I would agree with you that if it is someone with the exact same personality because it's you then it could work with people who have less dominant personalities. However, it still wouldn't work with more controlling personalities even if it was you unless you're a logical controlling person. Though this does raise the issue of what makes you you. If someone is cloned where it is their exact match, memories and all then that would be you. However, once they go out into the world and experience things that you haven't experienced then things start to get skewed. You start to differ little by little until eventually you are two different people with different experiences and new preferences. This can still work out in a relationship depending on your starting personality but some things can change a person dramatically to the point that it causes issues in the relationship. Fighting will happen in all relationships but it would be even more difficult if the person you are arguing with knows almost everything about you from your darkest secrets to you personal thoughts. Emotional abuse would follow suit if this were to happen with the wrong personality types.I thought the point of selfcest was that the person was literally you. So maybe they could use that line, but not seriously. If you point out a flaw in yourself, the other you will have to assume you're right, because 'nobody knows them better'.
That's also why I think this is wrong. You don't have similar personalities. You have the same personality. And sure, a dominant, sadistic person or a hypocrite who refuses to accept reality would definitely suffer in that situation. But someone who's too shy to speak might be more willing to open up to someone who already knows what they want to say.
I might be wrong, but isn't the appeal of selfcest that you can always trust the other person to behave in a way you'll understand? It might not work for people who don't have a clear understanding of themselves, but in general you can always predict their actions.
