I thought the point of selfcest was that the person was literally you. So maybe they could use that line, but not seriously. If you point out a flaw in yourself, the other you will have to assume you're right, because 'nobody knows them better'.

That's also why I think this is wrong. You don't have similar personalities. You have the same personality. And sure, a dominant, sadistic person or a hypocrite who refuses to accept reality would definitely suffer in that situation. But someone who's too shy to speak might be more willing to open up to someone who already knows what they want to say.

I might be wrong, but isn't the appeal of selfcest that you can always trust the other person to behave in a way you'll understand? It might not work for people who don't have a clear understanding of themselves, but in general you can always predict their actions.
I would agree with you that if it is someone with the exact same personality because it's you then it could work with people who have less dominant personalities. However, it still wouldn't work with more controlling personalities even if it was you unless you're a logical controlling person. Though this does raise the issue of what makes you you. If someone is cloned where it is their exact match, memories and all then that would be you. However, once they go out into the world and experience things that you haven't experienced then things start to get skewed. You start to differ little by little until eventually you are two different people with different experiences and new preferences. This can still work out in a relationship depending on your starting personality but some things can change a person dramatically to the point that it causes issues in the relationship. Fighting will happen in all relationships but it would be even more difficult if the person you are arguing with knows almost everything about you from your darkest secrets to you personal thoughts. Emotional abuse would follow suit if this were to happen with the wrong personality types.

The linked story gets around the 'personal growth' issue by not letting the other self have their own personality. Two bodies one mind sorta deal. That's boring though.

The problem with the emotional abuse too is that it goes both ways. That hypocrite from earlier might be fine, but most people aren't going to be happy blackmailing themself. That would be a serious double-edged sword. 'Haha, you loser who never had a father! - Ugh, I never had a father either. Wtf.'

Storywise, it might be better to go with a character who wouldn't pair up with themself that well, but I wonder if the audience matches that estimate? If someone really doesn't like themself, do they still have any interest in Self-cest? Is it like, a masochist thing, where they just want to wreck their own day? I don't get it.

I'm not too sure that's the case, though. Psychology is a tarpit and I think most people go by making little convenient lies in their self-perception.
Being constantly put in front of a mirror sounds uncomfortable to me, at least.

Sure you can make it look nice in fiction, but that applies to just about everything.

Fuck, that thing was a disappointment.

According to more than 5 people, the female version of me is their ideal girlfriend. And since my ego needs to be fed, I would agree.

depends on the recipe, really

I've heard the recipes on page 5 in the cooking section of the Necronomicon are really nice. Haven't been able to get a lover to try it though. One day. One day...

Sure, in the beginning, but eventually they would change as will you, and with two different experiences eventually you would be two different people in personality, sure, very similar, but different. There's a webtoon about this(though not based on selfcest, no romantic feelings with himself.)

This reminds me of that manga where the dude got two bodies one that’s a female and the other his original body. And then some righteous hero kidnaps his female body for some reason thinking he was a villain.
Title?

I haven't signed into that account in years, I think someone hacked it and started reading manga on it, lol. It seems like they got bored though, cuz they only got half way through some of the stories I don't recognize.
