I just wanted some feedback on how a buddy of mine colored a drawing of the character in my novel, I told him what colors and details I wanted him to have and I think it came out nice. Just wanted some social feedback on it or perhaps some advice for next time with other characters. Thank you for your time nonetheless.

The line art is really well done.
The colors don't suit the character at first glance, but at the same time, it isn't bad, or anything of the sort. It's well done. It's good.
In my own head, I saw it much much different seeing the line-art first. but that's art. It's subjective. My vision wouldn't be the same as any one else's; Not completely anyway. Either way, Goodjob, How-a-buddy-of-mine-colored-a-drawing-of-the-character-in-my-novel, you did great.

Just for future reference, post the colored picture first, so the first thing people see is the artwork. Seeing the line art first allows people to get their own notions of what it should look like. Even if it's only a 2 second glance, the mind works much faster than the scroll wheel on the mouse.

Allowing people to soak in the destination, then showing them the road leading up to it, will have them more inclined to follow along... Rather than seeing the road, and deciding there, and then, if the destination is even worth it to begin with. *Finger guns: pew pew

I like it! You did a great job. The colours and hair remind me of Howl Pendragon (Studio Ghibli). The expression looks really good too.

@MR.Squabbles I really like the coloration overall, but I'm not completely sold on the shading in a few spots. For example, the eyes seem to have lost their depth; they look a bit... empty? I'd say almost like the irises are purple tack-heads sticking out of black patches on his face. Do you think your friend might be willing to experiment on other projects or as practice with adding ocular reflections or, since this character is a demon, maybe a way to show that dark, light-absorbing depth in the eyes? :blob_aww:

Of course, this is just my personal impression, one opinion out of potential billions, so please feel free to take it with a grain of salt. :blob_okay:

That's my take too, the big loss here is the emotion in the eyes, which is really strong in the line drawing.

I agree. Even if the sclera is black, it should reflect light, which would also better show that the eye is an orb.

black red green, these colors might suit the line art better. I really don't like the blonde hair cuz it's taking away the intimidating factor the line art had
