You should also make a list of words or phrases that should definitely be used in moderation or give you the ick, examples:

- smirked (started to reserve it for anyone but the MCs), I've been replacing it with scoffed in amusement or twisted smile
- shiver/chill running down the spine (self-explanatory), I just use goosebumps
- the air was thick with tension/warmth/ anything (same as smirking, don't overuse it)
