I often forget important details or city names. Therefore, by the title of the chapter, I can sometimes find the things I need. I honestly find it more convenient than a simple number in the title. And yes, spoilers in the title suck, some authors literally write in the title what will happen in the chapter, breaking any expectations.Do you guys prefer to put chapter names on your fiction or not? Personally, I don't bother using them for two reasons:
1) I'm already using too much of my brain power coming up with the contents of the chapters themselves. I don't wanna use even more just summarize each one in a couple of words, especially if it provides little or no return.
2) The title of a chapter could potentially spoil the contents of the chapter and possibly lessen the emotional impact of the chapter itself.
Usually, I just label my chapters with simple numbers (Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, ...etc.) But maybe there are legitimately good reasons for using chapter names.
What are your guys' opinion on the matter?
I like to make my titles touch on the themes for the chapter, but tend to do so far remotely. Like more of the you realise it after you've read the chapter and go "oh, that's what it meant."I often forget important details or city names.
