Changing my username?

I know it's possible to change my username. I looked in my user settings, and it said I'd be able to do it in November. What I'm wondering is, would it be a good idea? I mentioned in another thread that my account got banned on Royal Road, but it's still easily the biggest goldmine of potential readers of any webfiction site on the internet, and a small timer like me can't really afford to ignore it. I'm not going to reupload any of my old books (that would be too obvious) but once I have a new, bigger project ready to go, I'm thinking about making a new account and uploading to RR under a different name.

Here's my problem: I can't name that account ThisAdamGuy because that's what my old account was called, and the mods would just ban me again. But I don't like the idea of uploading under more than one name. For one thing, it'd be confusing for my readers. For another (and this may just be my paranoia talking) it'd be easy for the RR mods to find my account here on SH, see that ThisAdamGuy is uploading the same story as InsertNameHere, connect the dots, and re-ban me. So to avoid that, I'd change my name here too, and anywhere else that I'm uploading under the name ThisAdamGuy.

How will my readers here on SH and other sites react when they see that ThisAdamGuy renamed his account to InsertNameHere? Would they notice, or even care? Am I overthinking this? Am I going crazy? Are the lizard people who run the government reading my mind? ...do you think they'll leave a five star rating?

I changed from Owlbear86 to John Owl and no one really batted an eye. But I kept the same PFP. If you're looking to bypass a ban, you'd want to change that as well, which might alert some folks. You could make an announcement in an upload on here.

Can I ask why you were banned? I've had stories pulled and rejected but no outright bans for content, unless you sneak something by a censor or reupload after a removal.

ahh, you're that guy. My bad, I usually just read posts, so I don't connect usernames. Yeah, that was terrible.

That aside, Yeah, I stand by what I said. New account there, switch username and PFP here, then make an announcement to your readers. possibly even unpublish/hide stories here so they can't be connected. RR could see them and be like "didn't we ban a guy with Stories X, Y, and Z? And now this guy has this story, same as that guy?"

Might just be a bit paranoid, but that gut feeling as served me well in the past.

First of all, they can check your IP address that you connect with to the platform from, so if you're using the same device, you will get banned by the program even without the mods doing anything.

RoyalRoad recently removed fake alternate accounts created by authors to manipulate their reviews by linking them to their IP addresses.

They'll know it's you. Your username isn't even a factor here unless you plan to run a VPN every time you post.

And unless you have a brand attached to your name, no one is going to care.

We have plenty of colours to go through. I didn't even get to the best of them.

...and you believe it won't happen again if you somehow change your username to the appropriately coloured muffin? Determining which colour is appropriate is TBA, apparently, but considering the sheer amount of colours to choose from, it's not an entirely unwinnable situation, suppose?
