Grew up with anime. Mostly because germany produced all child series in japan because it was cheaper back then.

What they presented kids back then was more solemn and uncensored with mature themes than today.

All anime are cartoons, no? Not all cartoons are anime, however. So it's cartoons
In Japan they pretty much call everything anime, including cartoons. I remember this one interview I watched where I dude was walking around asking Japanese people what they're favorite anime was and one dude said Frozen, as in the Disney movie.

To Japan, they don't have a cartoon/anime divide. Anime is just their word for cartoon. The divide is only prominent outside of Japan.

Granny smith - best apple for baking
Pink lady - best for snacking raw
Golden delicious - best for caramel/candy apples

Fax, old anime and old cartoons were goated, I still rewatch my Fav till today HxH and Regular show, and don't get me starting on the s**t called courage the cowardly dog that was horrifying watching as a kid XD but it was really fun specifically the return the Jar episode(not sure if it was a jar but the guy was waiting outside the house menacingly) was definitely the most horrifying, now for new animes meh so dissapointing the new romance are good though but the other ones are just a big bruh moment with their animation storytelling and especially the freaking Fan service with the huge asz milkers that is unnecessary showing every second. For the new cartoons we dont talk abt that.

I fully agree. We don't talk about that. For the new cartoons.

Hentai = Anime
You might struggle with the first tier of that chain of equation
Hentai may also be h-manga, h-dounijshi h-vn or h-games.

So it's more of an adjective, but people drop the noun for .. I don't know why.

But if you say.
Hentai anime = pornograhic cartoon.

Then yes. You would be correct.

I'd definitely vote for a cartoon if the question was which one was better, had better quality or such. But this is a weirdly worded question. I don't think I can vote. I might have seen more complex anime than cartoons, but that does not mean it's a better medium. If anything, it's plagued with too many stereotypes to convey complicated matters in any original way. And most Japanese animators who specialise on hardcore arthouse quite literally hate it when their works get called anime...

no?
where did you get that information from?
anime just means animation
for a japanese, a cartoon is basically anime
i mean, even 'cartoon network' calls itself a 'channel specialised in anime'(アニメ専門チャンネル) in for its japanese site.
if they don't want their animation to be called animation, then what do they want it to be called? 'moving picture'?

edit: japanese wikipedia even call 'family guys' an anime. so checkmate normies. you are all weebs who watch anime

The way I see it, anime=cartoon. I only picked anime on this poll because that is what I have been watching in recent years.

From their interviews, obviously. I read some of the famous animators' interviews and they seemed annoyed when their animation got called anime and literally asked people not to do that. They didn't go into great detail, but I find it rather clear why they wanted it that way. They produce arthouse and don't want to be associated with mainstream ecchi, isekai and such, just coz of their country of birth.
I remember Q-rais and Koji Yamamura saying that. I think there were more, but I don't remember who exactly. It's also a hassle to search for, as I read those many years ago.

Why do you even cite wiki? I know that anime and cartoons are the same thing. Everyone keeps chanting it here too. By anime we clearly mean Japanese (or at least asian animation) as opposed to the rest of the world. That's the point of the question at hand. Also, I'm not much of a normie. I got over 6months of anime watched. That's why I replied...
