Hello fellow readers. I'm a dude at the ripe old age of 30 and about as religious as Ricky Gervais that likes Romance, Fantasy, Urban fantasy, and sci fi mostly. However i find myself in a bit of a pickle, i find that most of the books for the male demographic lacks romance or even a romance subplot and/or any sort of steam. Or if they have them they are harems with 15 girls with the combined character depth of a puddle, or are some sort of rpg power fantasy trash with 3 status screens per chapter. There is also the problem that if they don't tick those boxes the MMC have the backbone of a old dishrag, alternatively he is HE-MAN and can do no wrong and this is a bit sad.

Some books i have enjoyed from the male side of the fence are.

Anything by Bluefishcake he is on r/ HFY They have steam and story.

Wisher beware by snusmumriken Its got an amazing world, plot and "PLOT" for days.

The HEL Jumper also on r/ HFY I found that the romance nice and the story was good too.

Trannsmission lost By stefan c. mazzara was good but it did drop the ball with the ending.

The books for the female demographic are a bit better but then they usually have a MMC that is Chad Thundercock on the cover and those don't really appeal. Lacks a plot beyond "love triangle" or go in to some twisted dark fetish hole and doesn't even apologise " i'm scared" tried haunting Adaline and that is not me. Not that i mind smut but at least do it well.

Some books from the female side i have found i like.

The mercy Thompson series and the spin-off by Patricia briggs i fond the story after the first 4 books "when it stopped with the love triangle bit" has been great but lacking steam.

molly harpers Nice girls don't have fangs series and the werewolf "spin-off" a fun read. the ones after that are not as good.

Jeanine Frost Night huntress series was fine but its getting in to the territory of female power fantasy and the only problems end up being that the FMC does something stupid and the MMC has to come fix it And forgive her for being dumb.

The black dagger brotherhood got dropped after 2 or 3 books for being off The Chad thundercock verity.

So pleas "Suggest me a story..."

Tldr
I am asking for books that have sex scenes, and a plot that's not all romance, and lead characters aren't walking cliches.
Wow, you're like me.

Here's my shameless self-plug.

To answer your issues:
There's explicit sex, but not for a while, and it's not the plot. Rather, it drives & reflects the plot. I prefer to think of it as "uncensored."

MC is not exactly Chad Thundercock, either. He's more of a flighty, idealistic, "everything is beautiful" ham whom life smacks in the face. Some user complained that he's dragged along by the plot [which is the whole point] but he grows out of it and starts driving things later on [I promise] as he learns the hard way.

There's no stats or anything LitRPG like that.

As for what the story is *about* that's the part I struggle with. Not that I don't know what I'm writing, believe me I do, but I don't want to spoil it for you. 69 chapters in, and things are unfolding nicely, and will continue to unfold for a while. Suffice it to say that shit is going on that MC isn't privvy to, but the clues are there.

To give you a clue as to my style, I'm coming from Toni Morrison, George Orwell, Tolstoy, and yet here I am writing scifi/fantasy so wtf.

And no, I don't use AI to help write it. AI can't write for shit, there I said it. It thinks crap is gold, will tell you whatever you want to hear, and will suck the soul out of the work if you listen to it. It does find typos, though, some of them anyway.

Oh. Almost forgot, Here's the thing: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/967246/a-place-to-bloom/

You should absolutely check out Dukerino's stories, I think they will be what you're looking for. His best known one is "Princess of the Void". I will say, read until at least chapter 1.11 before you make a decision to keep reading or not.

Thanks :)

Not the point of the story.. but sure I'll take the compliment. Glad you like the story as well.

Really is the best smut I've read so far on this site. Most of the other stuff is so mechanical/boring.
