The world is suddenly filled with mana (?), humans can vaguely feel this new energy circulating in their bodies.

As the mysterious force builds up in people, it eventualy reaches critical mass, and in a dramatic way these humans find that they can now activate a special power!

Although the power varied from person to person, all powers appear somewhat magical.

People that have learn to active their ability we call them... what?

Awakened?

Or? Something else.. ?

In the real world? There would be at least one technical term that would be used only by boring people and public speakers, but understood internationally, while every country and probably every subculture would have their own colloquial terms based on what they look like or what that group thinks is the most plausible explanation.
Some would be newly developed, others would have a religious connotation (blessed, witches), others would be literary references (supers), and others would have a negative connotation (possessed). At least some would just take and own the title of sorcerer/wizard/mage/whatever. Any title they are given would have attached baggage, unless it’s the new word salad term that the UN decided on.

I don't care about the general term, but make their hero names onomatopoeia.

Like if there powers are explosion their hero name would be, Boom (1st generation), BoomBoom(2nd), BoomBoomBoom(3rd)...

Meanwhile, if there power is water, Swish, SwishSwish

Flying, Swoosh, SwooshSwoosh

It’d be superheros or mages depending on the style.

We wouldn’t invent a whole new term for a thing we already have a word for.

Same way we’d call zombies, zombies and not Walkers or whatever.

Realistically, there would be multiple different slang terms that have very little to do with what their abilities are.

They'd have an officially recognized name, like 'Mage' or 'Superhuman', but then most people would call them 'Weird Fuckers' or 'Scrimbos' or something.

You can go into the gundam series and it has:

1. New Type
2. Coordinator
3. Celestial Being

Anyways, I will be screaming "FOR THE PRESERVATION OF OUR BLUE AND PURE WORLD!" as I shoot a nuke to a space colony.

Or do a colony drop onto Earth in retaliation.

Normally weird s*it gets some scientific name first and then some street names later, so depending on how you call the stuff you can end up with Mana-Conductors, Mana-Batteries, Mana-Tainted, Mana-Mutated, Mana-Ailed, or whatever and then go from there to shorten it or give them another street name like Mages, Mutants, Freaks, or other slurs.

I personally'd vote for Mana-Soldiers, just so you can shorten them to Masos :ROFLMAO:
